    Unhappy ffmpeg & JACK problem

I'm developing a multimedia player (currently only for playing audio files) using ffmpeg (for decoding the data) and Jack Audio Connection Kit (so everybody can hear the sound).

Should I do something after decoding the audio data using avcodec_decode_audio2()?

You want us to guess based on your 1-line description of what your code does?
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

    the audio decoding was successful.
do I have to do some sort of conversion of the data before passing them to the JACK? (sound data for JACK is in float)

    No.

Actually, that was a complete and unfounded guess.
However, what you really need to to is go RTFM and find out the answer for yourself!
