    Where is the downloaded software

    Hello all:

I am installing the Express visual C++2008. It let you free download the software. After downloading it installs the software immediately.

Where is the downloaded software, can I catch it. If yes, next time when re-installing the software, I don't need to download again.

    Thanks!

It depends (almost entirely) on your environment: OS (and version), web browser, user settings, etc. We can assume your using Windows, though we have no clue which version, web browser, user settings. On the page you downloaded it from, can you right click and "save link as" or something similar? Instead of left clicking to open it. If you know where your temporary files are stored, you can search there for .exe files and try to spot the file your looking for. It is on your computer somewhere.

Nadroj isn't aware of the difference between the web-install and the offline install.
You downloaded the web install (which is just a few megs) so next time you'll have to redownload it and there's no getting around that.

You should download the offline installer or iso "VS2008ExpressWithSP1ENUX.iso" from Microsoft if that's what you want, which is 766 megs.

Actually, I am aware of the difference. However, the fact that the software in question can be downloaded in different ways was never mentioned. If he/she had mentioned it, then:
    - if he/she chose the web-install: of course you have to download it again (thats one of the results of a web-install)
    - if he/she chose an offline install, then see my first post

    Hello Nadroj and all:

My purpose is to download the Express VC++2008 setup.exe and save it in my hard disk. I'll install it by myself off line. Next time if I need to install again or repair, I don't need to download the software again.

During the web-installing, it does downloaded the software first and then install the Express VC2008 in my PC. I don't know how to catch the downloaded Software or setup.exe?

My OS is winXP Pro pack2. Nadro said to "right click and "save link as" or something similar", I haven't cought the meaning. Could you give the details.

    1) Go http://www.microsoft.com/express/dow...t.aspx#offline
    2) Select language if necessary and click "» Download". It should open a pop up asking you where to save the file.

    Hi Nadroj and all:

I am instrested in catching the complete-installation-software of Express C++ 2008. As you said it must be in my PC somewhere and named as something like *.exe. Could you know the exact name of this. After finishing the installation, does the *.exe be deleted automatically?

My OS is winXPpro pack2. -Zhao

Ive already explained it above. Download the above file. If you did the web based installation then there is no setup files on your computer, so you have to download the above file which is for offline install, which gives you the setup file (inside of an ISO file). I think that same link I posted above has information about what an ISO is and how to use it.

If you download the exe it is normally buried somewhere in My Documents. You can check your IE settings (or the settings in the browser you use) to see where downloads are placed. If you already did the setup for Express that will be extracted into your temp folder during the install. If you look in there you will probably see a ton of other things you did not know about as well b/c most install programs do not erase the folder they used to install the application.

To avoid this confusion I always choose Save target as... or Save as... and I create my folder structure on the fly using the common windows file dialog box that shows up. All of my downloads are in a folder called downloads and are arranged by the type of download. As long as you remember to right click links to download and select one of those options instead of left clicking and allowing IE to stick it wherever you should be ok. You can also change the default path but this is annoying too since it will throw everything into the same folder which is not good. Some sites will have you downloading zips and rars and some will actually have you downloading files. It can quickly become a huge mess.

    EDIT:
Sorry I edited the wrong post nadroj.
