I recently enrolled in C++ and I must say, I'm not that great a programmer, but I found, Problem Solving with C++, 7th edition, by Walter Savitch to be one of the best programming textbooks around. In fact, I am almost falling in love with programming because of the way this guy writes. He's thorough, yet not so much as to insult your intelligence. I purchased the first two books recommended by this board for beginning programmers, but neither holds a candle to the way this guy writes. And, it all meets ISO/ANSI standards. He even includes free online video tutorials to help you get started with Visual Studios 2005 which easily translates into using Visual Studios 2008. And there are video tutorials to help you further understand programming concepts I barely understood while learning C. I'm learning this programming language so well now that I am over halfway through this 4 semester hour online college course. I'd recommend this board include this book as a primer for beginning programmers.
