    compiler help

    Hello, I installed msvc++ compiler from microsoft website.. the problem is that it says when i run the setup that i need sp2 in xp, while i have sp1 .. what the hell is this? is microsoft this lame or its some problem on my side? please tell me how can i run this compiler on xp sp1 as i realy need to use it, thanks

    Perhaps the compiler simply requires some functionality that XP SP2 supplies? They did actually change some of the functions.

    I thought XP SP2 is free to all XP users.

    everything is free here in our country, anyway, forget that, now can u tell me any compiler as good as it that works with sp1 or some better compiler than that plz lemme know

    also, can i updated from sp1 to sp2 without reinstalling the windows from cd? plz lemme know

    Yes, you can. That would be my recommendation - the whole point of service packs is that they fit on top of each other.

    Of course, if you still don't want to upgrade to SP2, then I'd suggest you get a version of gcc with one of the open source IDE's - Code::Blocks seems to be the most popular one.
