    Code:
    int int *[rows]
    this does not compile.

    i think you mean
    Code:
    int **[rows]

Download a free one. If you are on Windows, I suggest the MinGW port of g++ with Code::Blocks as the IDE, or MSVC9 with Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express as the IDE.
C + C++ Compiler: MinGW port of GCC
    Version Control System: Bazaar

You can always get more than one compiler later - compiling with several will make sure your code is as it should be - correct!

Outside of your DOS world, your header file is meaningless.

    Here's an online compiler: http://www.comeaucomputing.com/tryitout/
It won't actually produce an executable, but you can at least see if your code compiles.
Of course if you have several source & header files, you need a real compiler since that online one only compiles one file at a time.
