In England the only real qualifications employers look for are a good degree and/or lots of experience. There are some city and guilds qualifications too but in the real world they are meaningless!
Free the weed!! Class B to class C is not good enough!!
And the FAQ is here :- http://faq.cprogramming.com/cgi-bin/smartfaq.cgi
Microsoft have what they call MCSD you need to pass 4 or 5 tests.I did one then I got bored and wanted to program instead of reading books.

Thanks stone, I am doing the city and guilds project at the moment, followed by the exam. You have to put a damper on everything LOL.
hoping to be certified (programming in c)

although you don't have comercial experience, and you can prove that your competent at coding, certification is better that telling your possible future employer "erm i'm self taught actually"
oh ..........e did i just say that!
I think i need certifying..bleep!.....twitch....sniff
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his
shoes. After that, who cares.. He's a mile away and you've got
his shoes.

check the website www.brainbench.com
they certify in all kinds of different areas of IT. The certicification exams deal with actual coding and language knowledge instead of tool knowledge. Also they rank you according to your score. Their tests are not easy so be prepared.
