Bandwidth Monitor

I am trying to build a bandwidth monitoring program. The goal is for the program to read different logs from various sites that I host and read how much bandwidth they use a month. I am looking for ideas on where to start or good reference sites to visit. If anyone could help me that would be great. Thank you

Do you mean its faster in executing-time or is it just easier to write a program that handle logs in Perl then in C ?

Because i might start looking into perl some time when im bored...
Just that i know what can be done in Perl and what is suited better for C.

The regular expressions are what really makes perl great for log files analysis. I use several perl scripts to generate stats from my Apache logs.
