    1978 edition of K&R

Recently bought a 1978 edition of K&R for $2. Should I read it, or is it so old that it will do more harm than good?

If you are interested in the history of C, then it is nice to read. Though for using as a reference or study-book, I would recommend a later K&R which talks about ANSI C. Note that the latest ANSIC C standard has a lot of new stuff.

But anyway, it can do no harm to read it. Just realise that it's old C.

were there limits on variable sizes back then? (variable name length, not variable space). i tried an old borland compiler with some new code and it spit out many error messages, ranging from use of '//' to variable names that were too long.
