    Question Brain Tickler

here's a brain tickler for all u people out there.

Write a C program to declare an integer array of 20 values. Input values in the array from the user. Declare an integer pointer and initialize it to the address of the array. Write a function to sort the elements in the array. Pass the integer pointer to the function to access the elements of the array.

How is that a brain tickler? It's probably one of the easiest programs one can write past hello world. You need to be much more creative to get us to do your homework for you.

It's no use. I've all but given up on replying to "homework" for the simple fact that in a few minutes, someone will show up and do the entire problem for them, even though there are a dozen people before that saying not to.

Or perhaps they are just what some people call a "kind" person. You know them-they're the ones helping those who do not "deserve" it, helping those who may have made an incredibly irritating mistake even though it is due to laziness, lack of respect, etc. You know the story-the weirdos that drive around for a few hours a day downtown putting money in parking meters so someone doesnt get a ticked/get towed. That type of person. Are you sure you don't have a little of this "kindness" quality in yourself, Prelude?

It has nothing to do with 'kindness'. You can give a person an ear of corn, and feed them for a meal. You can teach them how to farm, and keep them fed for a life time. Which is better?

Meaning: I can do your work for you, or I can actually teach you how to do it yourself.

Perhaps, but that type of kindness hurts more than it helps. Imagine people who have their programs written for them walking into a programming job and being expected to get things done. And not just done okay in a few weeks, but done perfect right now. That kind of reality would hit them pretty hard, so we ease them into it by not doing homework unless they've at least tried something.

First of all, Prelude, the thing I first addressed was your immediate diagnosis of anyone doing somebody's homework for them as showing off.

I understand your reasoning, but both of your replies are rather arrogant, in my opinion (maybe arrogant is not the right word, but I seem unable to find a decent replacement. presumptous?). I think that at some point in an individual's life, others have to abandon the policy of "its for your own good", stop making decisions based on whether or not action X will actually prove to be of some benefit to Joe Shmoe at an indeterminate time in the future , and if they wish to be kind, do as Joe asks. I think that every right-minded person has broad rights to "self-determination," if you want to call it that.

P.S. Sorry if this unclear, I'll try to rephrase it if you like.

BTW thanks for not using the "give a man a fish" adage, although you choice was not a whole lot better

I was going to use the 'give a man a fish', but I don't eat fish, (Or anything animal for that matter.) so I used corn.

Well I figure it's like this:

If you want help, come here and show what you've done, what you need done, and what errors you get. If you just want answers, go to a search engine. If you're just too damn lazy, don't do either, and don't waste my time.

    Hmm, I've always been partial to;

Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a night,
Set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life.

fyodor, I'd take Prelude's stance a step further, doing someone's homework for them is not showing off, It's just down right nasty. I grasp very few concepts in C, but I grasp plenty of concepts in life, I have in the past had to discharge from my company's employ people that have acheived qualifications without learning the fundamentals upon which those qualifications are based.

Please don't preach about 'Kindness', there is nothing kind about helping a person climb a ladder without putting in the rungs. Let them at least make an effort; then show off your masterful coding skills so that we may all learn from it.

    Prelude, Quzah,

I have seen you posting replies to posts that I am sure are just homework. The fact that an assignment is difficult to resolve doesn't mean it is not homework. I am sure you answer them cos you find them challenging enough (or maybe to show off ). Others, including me, are just newcomers to C and find those 'easy' questions challenging enogh. If only difficult, advanced posts got answered people like me would have nothing to do in these forums.

In addition, the term 'advanced' programming is just relative. For someone who started learning C last week, are arrays an advanced matter. I am sure Kernighan would just lol if he read any of the most 'advanced' posts you can find here.

If someone is so naiv to think that getting others to solve their assignments from school will help them improve their skills in C they are just wrong. And I would encorouge them to consider studying something else. In any case, it's their problem. Not ours.

Wrong. I am in the same boat as you. I do not look at this subject matter in such a negative way though. You have all of those difficult, advanced posts to learn from. Once you get over your own personal obstacles it gets easier as you go on.

    Key phrase: own personal obstacles

    >and if they wish to be kind, do as Joe asks
So if Joe doesn't feel like working and asks kind people to give him money to live off of, you feel that everyone should give him money? Just an alternate perspective so that you can look at both sides.

Cool quzah your a vegetarian , me to

I don't say that I never will help anyone with there homework but atleast ATLEAST they have to do more then just copy and paste the question to the board. It is different if they tell us the question, do some analyze of the problem and ask about a specific part of the assignment. e.g "Could I use a struct for this? and how to I assign values to a struct". But they have to show some effort. And I don't mind if it is an easy question. a matter of fact is that those are the only ones I feal confident enough to reply to.It really isn't being mean.I can gladly agree that sometimes we can be harsher and more sarcastic then we have to. How come the teacher don't do the homework for them. He even gets paid to help them?
