Question Latest C/C++ Equivalent to conio.h?

I'm programming a roguelike game, and it's my first program. After a bit of research of the bugs I found, conio.h is outdated. Anyone know the latest C/C++ equivalent?

You could try either ncurses or pdcurses (depending on which platform you're on).
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
I support http://www.ukip.org/ as the first necessary step to a free Europe.

I'm on a Mac, but I'm aiming for cross-platform. I'll settle for whichever is for mac.
