How can I open a .dat file?

This is a discussion on How can I open a .dat file? within the C Programming forums, part of the General Programming Boards category; I just made a .dat file while making a program and I kinda forgot how to open it. Please help....

    How can I open a .dat file?

    I just made a .dat file while making a program and I kinda forgot how to open it.

    Please help.

    I'm not sure I understand the question.

    DAT files are extremely generic, generally they're only compatible with whatever program made them. Opening it in a hex editor might help you identify it if you know what you're looking for.

    Or you could be asking about opening files in a programming language. Is that it? What language?

    It's C and I'm using Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition.

    What is the source code of the program that you wrote? You probably used the fopen function, so take a closer look at that.
