Visual studio is always a good place to start. The Express Edition is free I believe.

Dev-C++ is a crappy old buggy and unsupported IDE. At least move to wxDev-C++ which is currently in development and supported.

You could always give Code::Blocks a try too. It comes with GCC. I've heard Pelles C is not too bad, though I have never tried it myself.

I use it all the time kermit... It's actually pretty good. A couple of little eccentricities to get used to but overall a solid trustworthy compiler.

Too many "me too" bumps - if you like something, then just click the like link in the bottom-right corner of each post.

If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
