What OS? What do you mean by "module"?

My OS is WindowsXP.
This "module" is a receiver. it receives Information from an digital thermometer.
Now i have to get that information which is sent to that module and is connected to the com port. That information are only bits or bytes which i have to decode with a protocol i got here.
