what do you think about A.I.? is it possible? i am not talking only
if a robot can pass succesfully the turing test, i am talking about
every habbit of man. for example. can a robot ever be able to
talk like a person? a machine is going to be programmed to talk
with less energy spent. but this means that it (or sould i say
he/she?) will never walk like a man, will it think of useless thinks
as many times people do? will it be abstract at sometimes in a
day? will it have tha ability to solve quiz? to make a quiz?
also if we have a line (a sine wave) with noise on it, a man will
understand that it is a sine wave. a robot will understand that?
as an atheist i believe that all of the human brain abilities can be
copyied. but if we use digital compiouters then we are not going
to have a "copy", we will have an emulation. which is far from
what we want.
yesterday i learned about the existence of analog compiouters
and i think it is pretty amazing. this and nanorobotics and
biotechnology maybe the way to A.I. ...isn't that perfect?
and what will be the effect to society? robots will work and men
will not work?
the part of making a robot is perfect, but is it good for humans?
i was watching a program on this the other day on Einstein Tv, they reckon that we have artifically intelligent systems soon. They ar working on teaching robots and making it possible for them to 'learn'. It will be many years yet before tru artificial intelligence appears, but neural networks are evolving fast and this will contribute.
As far as the socioeconomic effects of robots, that remains to be seen.
Well if you remove divinity and look at things from the perspective that we were created by the earth than it is certainly possible. I believe scientists have created new hybrid lifeforms while working with DNA (fruit trees for example), but not sentient life forms. I don't know too much about it though, but my guess would be that more intelligent computers are possible at least.
Mo technology , Mo problems.... :D
I think we are at an interesting point in history.
I don't know if we'll ever truly have A.I.; that would require a great deal more knowledge of how we learn.
It would be a great accomplishment in psychology though.
Imagine if A.I. existed (in the artificial being sense).
Think of the advancements to be made in human behavior.
I think this a great area for many fields of science to get involved in.
At the rate of processor speed improvement, the cpu that has the computational speed of the human brain will become available soon (and one even faster I'm sure) and that should be a great oportunity. The technology will exist, the question is will we be capable of using it.
I would rather see some other technology be improved upon and redesigned. Why not have more efficient solar panels? Why not make improved fuel cells for hybrid vehicles? Everyone has a hardon for AI while the environment goes to shi*
the mind-machine interface may be able to 'teach' a machine how to be human through it's scientfic sampling of the human's behavior and stuff. With this data, the machine could no doubt compute a bunch of formulas to simulate human life, and program them into ignorant other bipedal machines. Self-generating code would be the simulation/emulation of learning.
I have recently been thinking about how to make a world that follows the earths exact physics with a computer, and without having to make all of the animations and such... i think it's possible.
With normal digital/analog computers, I doubt that 'true' artificial intellidence can be achieved. With a quantum computer though, I think it is possible. They will be able to use the rules of quantum probability to have 'random' thoughts similar to humans.
I think that robots/computers making apparently 'smart' decisions (logical ones that is) is going to happen fairly soon.
Here's what I think of AI:

We are here to protect you from the terrible secret of space.
You're not fooling anybody, ehsiq. I've seen Terminater I and II. AI will one day take us over! And who will SkyNet have to thank? Ehsiq
Heed my warnings people, Deep Blue was just the beginning. Next thing you know, it could be backgammon, or reversi that a computer wins on. After that, there's no stopping it from there! We must act now! We must stop the madness before it starts! WE MUST DESTROY ANYTHING THAT HAS ELECTRICITY NOW! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND THE FUTURE OF THE PLANET, DON'T LET US BECOME POWER SOURCES FOR THE ROBOTS OF TOMORROW! AHHHHHHH!

Marvin Minisky has a number of short non technical essays.
and i program with a series of non-technical arrays.
anyway... where were we? ohh yes, annoying each other with posts that make little to no sense.
I was refering to "When will robots inherit the earth."
America nearly voted a robot in as their president...oddly enough a chimpanzee won....
