Don't forget according to the terms and conditions we must display the sf.net logo on the website (it's small and sexy looking).

BTW, I only rushed ahead and did it on sf.net cause 'everyone' said go for it, and I wanted to get the ball moving

I hope the mods don't get angry that it's called 'cboardwiki'. I wish I didn't call it that cpwiki is better. Perhaps we should change it in the future? Maybe before it gets used a lot.

Edit: It seems MediaWiki "needs" PHP5, and won't run on PHP4 which is a bit outrageous considering PHP4 is still supported by PHP (at least until the end of this month). We'd have to use Version 1.6.8 until sf.net upgraded (they will when PHP4 is officially dropped). Or select a different wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ware#PHP-based

Wow. Missed a lot in such a short time.
Whatever languages we choose to get in depth doesn't really matter to me.
What wiki and where it's hosted doesn't really matter either.
So I'll just wait patiently while you sort that out

Mmm'kay. I suggest we do rename it to cpwiki, just in case. It's shorter anyway.

So should we use an older version of MediaWiki and then (possibly) upgrade it, or pick a different wiki?

The language doesn't matter, as long as it's C and C++, eh?

    I like cpwiki.sf.net . . . it sounds good. [/edit]

yeah I'll put in a request now then, the name should only change so you can keep working on the wiki

The request should be processed by the bot within 48 hours. cboardwiki to cpwiki

    Of course! Those are necessary.
The whole idea started to write common things that are repeated over and over such as the use of scanf which is C! The board is flooded with void main, scanf and the likes, so C/C++ ide definitely a must!

I dunno -- when you ssh to shell.sourceforge.net, your path contains "cboardwiki". If this folder was moved or renamed to "cpwiki", it might break any Wiki installation that exists.

At any rate, in about 45 minutes I'm going to sign off, and I probably won't be online until Monday. I'll leave you guys to it.

Don't worry, I can tell the difference between a joke and being serious

Well, you must have a rare sense of intuition, because it's often very difficult to tell the difference between someone who's being serious, and someone who's not.

    [Of course, smileys help.]

It shouldn't break it. If you're not online until monday, pm me the SQL passwords and I'll pass them on to the other guy (or install MediaWiki myself).

I PMed them to you both. (zacs7 and jverkoey.) Feel free to change them if you don't like my humour.

    *walks back into the room*

Hm. After thinking about this project on the way home from work, I've come to the conclusion that at this point it is quite similar to a candy bar.

    *coughs a bit*

Upon arriving at the check-out counter at a grocery store, you're generally presented with a large matrix of various forms of delicattesens. You peruse them a bit, and suddenly you realize that you really are hungry for a Snickers, and so you end up buying one. Not for any good reason, really just because of convenience (it was right there!). Enter the impulse purchase.

*whooshes hands and brings us back to the present*

Our candy bar here really can't just be an impulse purchase if we want it to last. With that explained, I think that it is necessary to take a step back from the checkout line for the time being and recheck our grocery list.

First off. Who are we targetting this site for? Is it going to aim at the void-mainers or the more confuzzled variety?

I firmly believe that a void-mainers-style Wiki has no zest, gusto, or if I may imply a new meaning for an already amazing word, juice. If we want to attract people who will actually want to write for this, we need to have an aire de excellence about the site.

Second off. Once we determine what is necessary we need to determine how the design for the site is going to progress. Can any of you draw, paint, imagine? I'll assume most fit at least one of those actions, in which case we need to iron out an outline of the design for the site. Primarily a hierarchy of tutorials needs to be determined and a general feel for the layout.

*needs to run off and eat, is starving*

    Aww, no Snickers for us?

The main reason I can think of for a Wiki FAQ? A place to put a highly edited and polished version of all of those posts that we keep typing up. What "good indentation" is. What is wrong with Turbo C. The real deal on casting malloc().

Well, I posted a list of stuff earlier.
[...] like an explanation of p=realloc(p,...), sizeof without parentheses, passed arrays to functions degrading (sorry, Prelude) into pointers, Turbo C, timing with portable and platform-specific functions, how to figure out whether a function is ANSI standard or not, what to do on Linux when you get an error from leaving out -lm, etc, etc, etc.
But those are just my ideas, and the nice thing about something like this is that it will be a conglomeration of everybody's ideas. What are your opinions?

I sometimes wonder if it's truly possible to attain true eternal confuzzledness . . . unless you're Prelude, of course.

Well we mainly just want it for reference, basically the current FAQ articles on this site and more (although you'd have to rewrite them or ask the authors for permission). I've installed 1.6.10 of media wiki (rather I'm uploading it...)
