thank you, Im proud of it. All these people who are saying that the us sucks and is the most corrupt there is better take a better look at their own societies, cuz theirs suck crap!!!
Same to you, before you hugely overgeneralise this argument into america vs not america (there is a world outside america and it's pretty big and diverse, believe it or not). Take a look at your own society before accusing everyone else's of 'sucking crap'.

Lets count all the mass murderous jerks (like hitler if you dont understand what Im saying), Uhhh, yeah, none I see from the US.
People like Hitler have nothing to do with their race, they are just born *******s. America hasnt had anyone quite as bad yet, it's a young country, a lot of countries have never had a hitler. But then germany was (and still is) very similar to america, they are both capitalist for a start, the only real difference being the pressure Germany was under as a result of WW1, had America been in the same position 'a Hitler' could just have easily been American, or British, or French or any other country.

Before america came along, countries were just f'in with each other...

I do seem to remember that a while before america came along, and before people left britain (screw great, its britain in my eyes) there were people being killed for not accepting catholisism (which I dont agree with. Im not catholic, just chrisitian (cant tell somethimes can ya?) They were cuttin open their stomackes (sp) and putting parasitic crap in there, THATS NUCKIN FUTS!!
You cant possibly say that the world is better because of America, the US had it's problems much the same as the rest of the world back then, and it still does now, you are looking at the evolution of society as a whole and crediting america with all the good things that have ever happened, and that to me is just ignorant.

For all I care, we rock, they suck, nuff said.
For all I care you can take your bloated head and shove it up Uncle Sam's ass, open your eyes for christs sake.

I dont have a problem with Americans or America, I do have a problem with people like you who pig headedly asssume that America is the greatest country on earth, has alwas been and will always be, just because you live there, and because you are filled with hot air and patriotic bull from people like your primate president. I've tried o respect your opinions but they are so unfounded it makes it impossible.

    gamegod, look what you've started!

I'd just like to say that I personally could give a rat's ass for what anyone thinks of me, my country, or my opinions. I'm sure someone will tell me to STFU just for stating this, so if it does happen remember that I don't care.

So much ignorance on this thread; it's sickening... (C'mon someone make some kind of smart-ass remark...I'm waiting. )

Anyone outside the US currently making fun of it: You have no idea what it's like here. I lived in South Africa for 6 years - land of locking your door whenyou pull up to red light, for fear that the guy who through a lawn chair through your window, killed your parents, and stole your VCR last night has friends on the street that are about to come put a gun in your face and take your car, after shooting you and the kid sitting in the back seat in the face.
Then, when you call the police and the paramedics, the police ask you to come pick them up because all police cars in the couitry have been stolen, and the 11 paramedics in city of 12,500,000 people won't get to your situation until you die of old age anyway. When you finally get a chance to have the police come have a look at what happened, they're eying the car's stereo that the hijackers forgot to take. Just shut up until you know what you're talking about.

And now the american side of the story: Today I got a guy stop our car today on the street. We weren't afraid to open the window and talk to him - he was handing out free American flags on Main street in remembrance of September 11th. You can't beat that.

Wow, all that in a country which puts money before the environment.

    >I do think the US health and unemployment insurance system is ridiculous compared to ours. But then, if you hear how much of our income is spent on taxes, you'd probably be the one to laugh.<
Despit it's faults are heath care system seems to work bettern the any other contries.

    > 0) It's all about money. Supranational companies like to rape the nature and wipe out people who stand in their way (Shell in Nigeria, Chiquita about everywhere to mention few). <

I can't find anything about Chiquita, but for Shell in Nigeria the Nigerian government seems to be involved, also they seem to have doen soemthing since the latest I can find is from 1996.

    > 1) USA as a country likes to play cowboys and indians (or rosvo ja poliisi as we call it in Finland) with some other countries (Vietnam, Cuba, etc.). I also tend to feel that it's not about that freedom & democracy what's it about; It's all about money and police-stations (oil pipes and strategic positions in Afghanistan, military bases in Saudi-arabia and god knows what in South-America). <
Leaving Afgainitan, after we helped them defeat the Sovet Union, was a huge mistake. Today would have been much diffent if we has stayed. America is a superpower, the only one. We have learned from World War I and World War II that we can not sit back, and ignore the rest of the world

    > 2) What I've read (see the quote in the Guantanamo-thread as an example), I have a feeling that while Americans are the most patriotic people I've heard about, they seem to have some sort of gene that blocks them accepting critique towards their country. They also tend to be rather conservative while they don't like things like abortion (speaking of freedom), nature (Bush) and like to inject all kinds of leathal fluids in to the blood vessels of criminals. <
Great thing about america- We have Tree huggers, and Tree cutters, prolife, prochoice, and take any other thing, we have both sides

    > 3) What I've heard about senior high school is something that really raises a question mark. I know few dudes who have been as an exchange student in USA (and friends whose friends have been there). While a normal school day in Finland doesn't include police, students with crossbows (or guns - this one is from media, not from a friend of mine), people pointing and laughing when somebody comes to a school with a bicycle or oath of allegiance for Stars and Stripes (or White Rectangles and a Blue Cross). However, we do decline students taking notes to exams (with some exceptions like math formulas) where (somewhere) in USA they can write notes to a piece of paper and take it with them to an exam. And when we write an essay, it's usually more than one or two sentences; full points usually require 1.5-2 A4s. And I have a feeling that our system (which obviously has it's own stupidities) gives a better result.
    <
America is 15th in education. So it needs some changing. As for guns the reason that most people who bring them is becuase they are scared that others will have them. As for police that is an over reaction do to guns being used in schools peole have always excepcly those in the male speices have needed to prove themselve to there pears. (the rule of nature The strong servive) one of the most comman ways that people do so is fighting , unfortonitly since if you have slugfast it will be broken up guns have become a sure way to finsh.
    > 4) While not ever being near America, I got the feeling that they could use all that money better than putting it on something like nuclear weapons, Star Wars (not the movie, silly), Star Wars II or what ever was that what Bush junior was doing, that extra 18 billion dollars for army and small things like Nasa. <
off course america is reducing it's stock pile of nucler weapons the Star Wars defense system is part of nattional security and there for invloves the Amry, and all other armed forces. And oh yea there are much more stupid things the government is spending monney on.
    > The Americans only think about money. The only reason that they were present at the Gulf war was because of the oil. Are they present at the war in Northern Ireland, are they present at the war in the Molukken (Indonesia)? No, since there can no bussines be generated. <
I said before america can't be invove everywere. Loosing oil would have a very very far reaching efect, also as I recal Clinton tried to negotate peace in Nothen Irland. It seems if we commit troops somewere were doing wrong, we don't were still doing wrong.

    > 2. Land of the free? Discuss. The USA has the highest prison population on the planet at about 5%. <
Of course when you have long sentence terms and crimials like to show up here that happens.

    >4a. Capitalism sucks? Well yes it does: it is self-evident. Resources are finite and if person 'A' has 90% there is only 10% left for the other twenty-five letters of the alphabet. Capitalism is NOT egalitarian and is the antithesis of democracy - one man one vote? Replace the word 'vote' with 'dollar' or 'pound' or 'deutchmark' etc and you will get the picture. I leave you to extrapolate that point into 'Freedom'. <

Capitalism is the worst kind of buisnes exept for all other forms of busness

    >if you would hurt your self to get a better life, it's ok.but if you hurt others to get a better life <for you> then it's not ok.<

I agree you should not hurt others to improve your self.

    >True enough, and I've always thought this. It'd be really fun to see someone land on our shores and hundreds of regular shmoes with AK-47's staring them down . The only problem I have with it is, like you said, people get shot. There should be stricted gun control laws...maybe a sanity test <

Of couse when you relize that most guns used in crimes are illegal to began with you should relize that laws don't fix problems, well writen laws do. (witch there are few)

    >>To conclude, I know the America hating Europeans hate this, but three words.

    >World War Two.

What? The USA turns up late and tries and take all the credit<

It was group effort, but America Did do a good share.

    >You mean none after you slaughtered about any native american you could find ? Just saying... <
First off, most of them died from diesease and last time I cheaked the killing of the Navive American was from Europens who came to america, to plunder the Natives.

I never said that capitalism=USA, because that, quite simply, would be nonsense.
Thank you. I have been waiting for someone to say that. While we are labeled capitalists, America is far from being a true capitalistic society. We have government intervention in many areas of business and our economy is highly reliant upon that.

Why does everyone have such a problem with Bush though? I think he has done well and the polls here(in the U.S) have agreed with me. He chose his staff wisely, that's what always counts. I thought the shaved monkey comment was very funny though, he really does look like a shaved chimp now that I think of it

    *Side Note*
I understand the frustration with some of the comments that have been made here. Let's not forget that some of us are trying to have an intelligent conversation. I am always glad to listen to the opinions of others. I find it very interesting, but the insults are really not called for. Thanks.

Well unfortunately, some of the people that your are arguing with are children. Older children... but children just the same. I agree with you... we are a world economy and a world nation. The US is a country of 'others' as I previously stated.

We really aren't as great as some of the children and brainwashed think. Even opening our eyes doesn't change that fact and doesn't change how society and reality are going to be.

But I am a firm believer in 'credit where credit is due.' You don't judge things solely on their malfunctions, but also on their merit.

The US has a climate that 'could' allow a person to do quite well, and live a great life if the desire is there. The same could be said for pretty much any country.

Something that has been ........ing me off for quite some time is the overglamorization of entertainment in the US with explicit reguards to Sports, Hollywood and Record Agencies. We put too high a value on entertainers. They are all overpaid... and it doesn't matter the talent.

Why should an athlete make more than a studied genious... like a knowlegable brain surgeon or something? I do not think they should.

I was asked whether I would want my son to be a brilliant athlete, a super handsome model-like guy (you know the rico-suave type guy that gets all kinds of women), or a brilliant thinker. Even though the first two could guarantee a lap of luxury... I would rather he has a brilliant mind and contributes more than a two hour movie or the next illiterate hip hop song.

Uhm... okay, so it were your ancestors... compared to Hitlers followers, who were my ancestors, or Napoleon's ancestors, or Mao's ancestors or Stalins ancestors. What difference does that make for the argument I brought ?

I like the US. I don't like the attitude some americans are having. Your country is not better than all others. You like America. Thats fine. How come your love is patriotism, while mine just sucks ?

Free speech does not mean your country is great and others are talking ****. Freedom means respect. Respect has to be earned. It cannot be bullied.

hmmm lets see.Im in England and proud to British(blah blah great empire etc-yes we once had enough balls to kick the worlds ass). Ahem......right, I for one hate Europe and would rather be towed a few thousand miles West(somewhere sunny maybe(Florida/Miami)) than be tied with France/Germany(need i go on?) etc. Yes Americans are obese(sorry) and a bit hmmm ahh yes-weird sometimes. The Afghans deserve sod all more than Cuba(ask the people of NYC)-why do we forget so fast? Oh yes and dont forget-whos the remaining super power---wait it will come to me...oh yes USA thats it.! By the way, if USA wants to flex its STRONG arm further-well, so be it. Read my post in the Euro debate...I hate the idea, but I maybe would accept spending $ instead of (wheres the damn key?) Euros.

For peace to come to us all, maybe blood needs to be shed, because lets face it in a few decades we are either with each other or not here at all.Im not even going to bother viewing my opinions of religion.Theres a relief eh?

Mind, I hope I have got a full grasp on C++ by then, but I wouldnt bet on it.....

Hate to spoil anyones fun here, but... Thread closed. Bye bye. There is no longer a point (and people have complained about it). All i see is mindless, pointless ranting against people who aren't really saying what it is you think you're defending yourself against. (I'm not going to pick sides here tho as it would be rather unfair to say something and then close the thread on it.)
