    I was discussing creationism with some people who came to my door early one morning.

    When they found I believed in Darwin's theory, one said if I had found a watch (clock) on the moon would I think it had evolved?
    I said that if the moon was populated by a horde of terminally late entities it would be possible as they could have created the conditions to force a watch to evolve.

    As Darwin theorises, nature forces evolution. It is not random, the change must be benificial to the organism. It is not static as the Pepper moth of the UK proves.

    And in some places it is not taught because it is against Christian values.
    "Man alone suffers so excruciatingly in the world that he was compelled to invent laughter."
    Friedrich Nietzsche

    "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars......the rest I squandered."
    George Best

    "If you are going through hell....keep going."

    >but you can make up your own mind about things. (referring to Athiesm by Govt)

    No, you cannot. Atheism is the blind belief that there is no god. An atheist thinks that the absence of positive proof is a proof of gods non-existance. Calling himself a scientist, an atheist fails to see one of the basic laws of science. The absence of money in my pockets does in no way mean that money does not exist.

    >communism is one of the view things i hate.

    Did you ever see communism ? We have never seen it in action. You probably mean the tyranny that called itself communism. That's the same like the peoples republic... don't hate the
    republic for the injustice that is done in their name. What you have witnessed ( or more likely only heard about ) was tyranny, pure and simple.

    Sometimes I get the feeling that in the states, communism and Marx are seen as criminal, while hatespeeches by NeoNazis and others are freedom of speech. Whether you agree with him or not, do you really think a concept for all people to be free and equal can be so bad ?

    >Where do you think Hitler got that idea?

    Where do you think Hitler got his followers from ? Blindly following him, putting faith into something that did not deserve it ? If an idea isn't strong enough to allow critisism, if it hasn't the strength to admit that it can be subject to failure, can it be good ?

    Having faith is a good thing. If you accept that it's only faith, nothing more.

    Did you notice that only the followers say you just have to believe it. Have you ever seen a priest or rabbi telling you he knows the truth ? They will tell you to read the book, to look at all aspects and to see for yourself if it works for you. They encourage you to ask questions. And sometimes they will just say 'I don't know'. They will admit failure. Those are the people who are strong in their faith.

    To,
    Dissata, DavidP.. and lots of other who quoted from Holy Books..

    This is like proving an algebra statement like this.
    Code:
    x+1=7+y; is only given.. Have to find the value of x and y.

    Now
          x+1=7+y
    => x=y+7-1
    => x=y+6

    Again
          x+1=7+y
    => y+6+1=7+y (Replaced the value of x, x=y+6)
    => y+y=7-7
    => 2y  =0
    => y    =0

    Then
          x=y+6
    => x=0+6 (Replaced the value of y, y=0)
    => x=6 :)
    Here we prove if values are correct..
    x+1=7+y;
    => 6 +1 = 7 + 0 (Replaced with the value of x and y)
    => 7 = 7 (Proved)

    Did you see? It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    Summary is: Being an accused person a witness of his innocent.. If you want to find the center of a circle you need at least two pointer from it's boundary wall.

    Y'know what I think's hilarious about threads like these? All the people that come back after awhile and say "Omg! I've been away for 15 minutes and there's 6000 more posts!" No kidding- haven't we been through this motion enough times before? It ends with a whole bunch of people feeling morally superior, everybody believing they've won, and nobody's mind changed...

    To that end, I'm only going to talk about a couple things.
    1) David - that quote you made of me - where is that? I couldn't find the thread it was from...

    2) Communism. I'm with nv on this one - communism's never been properly, truly implemented. If you look at people like Stalin, Lenin, Mao, or any other, you'll see that it's actually socialism and totalitarianism. There has never been true communism on a large scale and there never will be.

    >Hallucegenic foods is probably the worst excuse for religious visions I have ever heard an athiest use

    OK, sorry I was forgetting the much more plausible explanation that the all knowing God, creator of the universe and all that's in it came down and appeared to a bunch of middle eastern blokes a couple of thousand years ago to give them vague prophecies. I think it would be better to try and eliminate all worldly possibilities before looking for God.

    >...did I ever SAY it proved Jesus divine?

    No, but I was asking for proof of biblical miracles, as some people were attempting to claim that the Bible was factually correct (in that Jesus was divine), and yours was the response I got.

    >when really it's the people's closed-mindedness that causes them not to give the other religion a chance.

    Yes, but have you really ever given another religion a chance. Or is it just lucky that you were brought up in the environment that encouraged yours, so you could get it right first time.

    >Atheism is the blind belief that there is no god. An atheist thinks that the absence of positive proof is a proof of gods non-existence.

    Maybe, but most atheists I know aren't that dogmatic. Even if you don't know the outcome of an event there's nothing to say you can't have a wager on what might happen. As long as you understand that this isn't necessarily the truth and it's only your opinion.

    >No-One, first spell my name right, its Da/L/ren, second, due to what i think is a typo im not sure what your asking. <

    terribly sorry,

    im saying by being an athiest and listening to such let me say unreasonable reasoning you are simply take one man opinion over another.

    >
    If these had been started by random people and they did it in the name of Christianity that would be one thing, but these were started by the top of the catholic hierachy.
    <

    ask the catholics even, the church was terribly corrupt at this time, this WAS the ambition of men.

    >
    We have physical evidence of rome and alexander and what not. Conveintly\, all your real evidence has 'dryed' up.
    <

    a good majority the bible has physical evidence supporting it.

    nv, Govt,

    Communism!!! GOOD!!!!! WTF?
    yes, you are right that they we have never seen "True" Communism only something barly resembling it, for the most part it was all socialism.

    BUT! comunism as with captilizm RELIES on the good will(more like perfection) of the people governed by it.

    both rely on a perfect society, which does not exist, and would nullify government in its existance.

    lets take at look at the meaning of communism shall we?

    1. a theory advocating elimination of private property
    2. a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed

    YOU OWN NOTHING!! all food and money is for the community EVERYTHING you make ern produce BELONGS TO EVERYONE!

    NO PRIVATE PROPERTY! no economic growth,

    no need to work if ol' bob is workin i'll just sit and eat off others labor...

    i dont want to get into another topic in the middle of this one but communism is BAD!

    > i dont want to get into another topic in the middle of this one

    Now, now - there's no reason we can't have 2 flame wars

    I missed this the first time around...

    > Sometimes I get the feeling that in the states, communism and Marx are seen as criminal, while hatespeeches by NeoNazis and others are freedom of speech.

    Simply put - you're wrong. It's all freedom of speech - usually, there's even a communist candidate on most major political ballots.

    no-one - you're fighting shadows. Neither of us said communism was good (although it was strongly implied, to be fair).

    Everything you said up to this part was right (I ignored the religious stuff, becuase there's no reason for me to get back into that)

    > no need to work if ol' bob is workin i'll just sit and eat off others labor...

    True, but in a true, utopian communism, you'd do the work anyways.

    > all food and money is for the community

    Why's that so bad?

    >Why's that so bad?

    here's why its so bad,

    No body can get ahead in life, everybody in the same community pit, theres no incentive to work, you work for the good of others not yourself or your family.

    take for example a farmer in a communist society during a famine,
    he works his ass off so his family can survive but to no avail since all of his work poors back into the community grainery where everone takes apart of his work and his family ends up with the same little bit of food no matter how hard he works, the whole society is screwed by the lazy man.

    this is just one example...

    Nvoigt, your right we have never seen true communism in practice. However communism is still the idea of moving from getting payed by your ability, to getting payed by need. This is the idea i hate, not the soviet union not china, simply the idea of communism. If I create some great thing, like a new super metal the profits should go to me, or my companty. I have to duty, or obligation to pass on my profits to the less fortunate or weak, or incompetent. If I make money, or anything else, I should keep it, I should not be forced to give it away because the mob belives others need it.

    >>im saying by being an athiest and listening to such let me say unreasonable reasoning you are simply take one man opinion over another.

    I never said i was an athiest. Also, Im not taking one mans opinion over anothers, Im sticking by my opinion, develop from my logic, my knowledge, and my experiances.

    sorry it just seemed that way.

    unfortunatly this is a dream communism will always have freeloaders, the way capatilism suffers with monoplies.

    Sorry, my misunderstanding. "Stick to your opinion just don't super-glue yourself to it."

    how not? capitalism is still capatilism with monopolies, just because people misuse it doen't make it something else.

    > capitalism is still capatilism with monopolies

    That's true. It's the gov't control over them that makes it not capitalism. We don't live in a pure capitalist society, and you're deluding yourself if you think otherwise. Also- monopolization's essentially as close to winning as you get in capitalism. Think about it - the American Dream - "Make all the money you can"... They fail to put on the addendum - "If you do too good, we'll bring you down!"

    what you say is all truth, and i would disagree with governent intervention in a perfect capitalist enviroment there would be no monoplies because the very (concept/foudation) of capatalism relies on competition which is why monoplies cannot, and should not exist.

    monoplies usually exist because of certian shall we say illegalities to destroy competition.

    >
    Also- monopolization's essentially as close to winning as you get in capitalism.

    no its a close to destroying itas you can get.

    >

    <

    not at all, if you break the law and illegaly crush competition then you should get you ass kicked. you damaging the WHOLE society. and risking the entire economy.
