Much better with the smaller text on the index page...

any chance you could lose the banner on just the index page... That would clean it up a bit imo.

and the "Advertise With Us" link isn't bold.

Do you think it would be a good idea to swap the "Questions" and the "Learn" categories. As far as visual layout, I think it would be better due to word length. Not to mention... many come here with questions.

too many middle links on the first page. Can some be moved over to the side list... like Cjournal or something.
