Where did THAT come from?!

This is a discussion on Where did THAT come from?! within the A Brief History of Cprogramming.com forums, part of the Community Boards category; See KONI's post. I personally think it's a good idea too, though I have seen some really annoying ones....

I've seen Google use them from time to time. Anything that discourages spambots is probably a good thing.

They should just have a time limit like normal boards do.

Its hard to decihper Quetrix's post, but I think he's talking about the new code validator (which I had an encouter with about a week ago). It's very unflexible: I had about one line of pseudo code that I thought didn't merit an entire code tag, but because of some keywords I had in there, the boards complained at me until I inserted the code into code tags. I can see how this might be helpful for newcomers, (actually, not really, since they'll just be stuck looking at the message not knowing what to do), but overall its very annoying.

Queatrix mentioned the code tag enforcement script, but was really talking about a CAPTCHA that is used for guest users who want to search the forums.

The code tag enforcer might be slightly annoying, but it greatly reduces the number of new users who post code without tags. There are ways around it if you find it necessary (noparse tags?).

It reminds me the registration at www.reverse-engineering.net . I'm still not registered there because I cannot guess the freaking confirmation code. Here's a picture from there. I guessed L1CD. But it was wrong.

Maybe the L is infact an upsidedown capital gamma - http://www.mathmlcentral.com/charact...talGamma_L.gif

Didn't someone start a thread about this that got deleted when the boards got deleted for a while?

    >> Maybe the L is infact an upsidedown capital gamma -
None of the other letters are udsidedown, and there are non-greek letters there, so I doubt it.
