What do I need to improve on for the real world?

Hello. I was not quite sure where to ask this question as it deals with both writing code, creation of algorthims, as well as finding jobs. Thank you in advance for your time.

I am about to get my first degree (2 year computer programming degree), and although I am planning on getting another degree within a few months and eventually attending a 4 year university I still have questions.

My main question to ask is what I should I brush up on or get into to improve my chances of getting a decent paying job? I'm not quite sure what type of programming I would want to go into as a carrer (but I have been looking at becoming a game programmer, so I am reading on algorthims for binary search trees, heaps, graphs, and some maths). I also have my first actual projects coming up, writing an attendance program to log student hours in the computer labs at the college were I attend, and creating a game with the SDK for the XBOX 360.

I hope this wasn't to general of a question, but any advice would be greatly appreated. Thanks again for your time

edit: Please be patient and while you're waiting for an answer, search the boards as these kind of requests come up periodically.

Ok thanks, I guess I had the wrong category. According to that direct quote I wasn't bumping, since the original message was posted today, sorry if it was regardless.
