Looking for a workflow management application

My boss is desparately looking for an application out there that can help us effectively manage our workflow, project scheduling and task lists. We have anywhere between 40-50 projects at a time, each having up to 20 different deadlines between 20 different people. Reports and such would be a huge plus. Also deadlines are constantly changing so it would need to be easily updatable.

I'm completely ignorant of this type of thing, anyone have any recommendations? I've been told he does NOT want to use MS Project.

I'm just curious as to why. It's one of the best.
The programmer’s wife tells him: “Run to the store and pick up a loaf of bread. If they have eggs, get a dozen.”
The programmer comes home with 12 loaves of bread.

I know not the wily ways of upper management. Its possible he meant don't mention it because he already knows about it and is curious about other options.

Have you used this, is it good? That site is pretty barren...

Primavera Project Planner Enterprise (P3E), however, it costs about 25K USD for the first lic, then 4-10K USD for each concurrent user. Major learning curve too, however, is the _BEST_ out there. Also has quite a few add-ons. BTW, it is a MAJOR pain to administer. . . You'll expect about 3-5 hrs a week on it. Gov't projects really like it. . . the administrators of the servers (not of the system, those are different in this case) really HATE it. . . or at least me and my pers did.

I'm so glad I found a programming job!

The most recent update was 2006-09-25 17:05.

I have used it for personal projects. I first started using the linux version.
I then saw the windows version and tried it out. It had worked great for me.
Be sure to install GTK+ before you install planner.
