Let's not forget you're taller, better looking, psychic, grow better tomatoes in your garden, make your bed without being asked, drive a better car, have a 18" penis, impervious to yuppie fads or whatever, have better taste in music, cook better, have a better-paying job, and MOMMY LOVES YOU MORE TIMES INFINITY PLUS ONE SO THERE!

OK, seriously. This coming from the guy who's spent this entire thread rabidly professing his love for a hand-held video game. There's a saying that goes "the pot calling the kettle black." look it up.

WE GET IT. You like Nintendo above all other video game related companies. Point made. Brain Age sounds like fun. You love your DS. Great. I hope you have a long and happy life together, and have lots of bitter, Sony-hating little handheld children.

In the meantime, though it may be considered immature to say so, it's far too appropriate to pass up, given your recent behavior:

Which explains why you don't own one. You have some growing up to do.

Good point, Sly. Though I'd argue that both are very (equally?) important. Like the balance between good graphics and games on a given system, you need both good concepts (the artists) and good execution (programmers) to achieve great graphics.

Vote anyway, please excercise your freedom. I know what you mean: choosing the American President is no fun; it's like choosing between a giant douche and a ........ sandwich. What motivates me the most is that people from other countries look to our President as a blanket impression of the United States, and I can't speak out if I don't like what he's doing unless I vote. Nonvoters didn't vote so they don't get a voice.

If you can't get the candidates' platform straight make a choice at least. Trust your judgment and go with the guy you like the most. Something.

As an ex-art major, believe me, I understand the importance of artists, but it seems to me in the age of technology, the artist has be put into the spotlight on the back of the programmer.

A kid can open up Photoshop CS and draw a circle in the middle of the page. Apply 50 of Photoshops filters, get something that resembles the Mona Lisa and call himself an artist. Is there art on that monitor? Of course. The programmers made it though. I'm not saying the fluttering hair and awesome particle effects aren't art, because they're made from programmers. They are. But when it comes to video games and in a cut sequence some character does a backflip, what do people say "Wow... look at that awesome backflip he did" or "Wow... did you see his jacket and hair flying around during that backflip?"

If you choose to vote for either the douche or the ........ sandwich, you're still endorsing one or the other. If you're trusting your judgement without knowing the candidates' platforms, you're making an informed vote. Both of these are terrible reasons to vote.

If there is no choice that suits you or you're too uninformed to know what the people stand for, do us all a favor and don't vote.

edit: ethic shoots fireballs from his eyes and can bench press the Dallas Cowboys.

    >The artists don't go beyond concept art of the characters and scenery

huh? you couldn't be more wrong. who do you think makes all the models, all the animation sequences, all the textures, all the level designs, ... not to mention the plot, character design, etc....

Good harware and a fancy rendering engine are nothing without good artists.

Right. Because if everyone stops voting, politicians as well as the worlds problems will go away. [/sarcasm]

This is probably the most important statement made in this thread. All of us have found this out when making our own systems. This is the key limiting factor in all of my design efforts. Second being sound design and production since I don't have a sound studio just sitting here for me to use, I'm reduced to using Sony Sound Forge and a host of other resources just to get good sounds.

A game is a helluva lot more than engine code. Helluva lot more.

Did you really have to direct that at me?

Fine, in the future when the President is determined by six little old ladies and the rest of us sat on our ass not bothering to try to get informed, or make a comprimise, I warned you it would happen.

Why wouldn't I? You made the post I was replying to, after all.

I never said either of those things. People should inform themselves of the issues and the candidates' positions and vote for the person they feel best represents what they want. If there is no candidate that represents what a person feels is best, why should they vote?
