    hmm...problems...

    Okay:

My parents want me to take off XP and put back on a legal copy of one of the several operating systems because they have been hearing all about this XP security problem and since I dont got a legal copy, it is kind of hard to download the patch when I have an illegal serial number....

Now, replacing XP with a 9x system would give me back my beloved DOS support...

but I would lose my beloved stability! I have loved the stability of this system for the past few months! Not one stall! Not one BSOD!

    What should I do?

    [modified]

Anyone know of a good warez site where i could find the security patch?

Or anybody know if I could have BOTH 9x and XP installed on the same system at the same time?

Download Mandrake 8.1, legally, for free. All the stability you want is right there .

Honestly, either buy XP or go back to 9x.

I don't really think a programming site is the best place to go out asking for cracks, BTW :P.

You could dual-boot win9x and XP, but don't use XP if it's not yours.

windows is not unstable to the unflinching eye... be clean! and if error occurs, find out why before doing anything else!

You'd have been better off with a pirate of Win2K.......

You can download as many patches as you want and its as stable as hell.

Of course I am not advocating software piracy in any way, shape or form.

I love paying for my M$ Operating Systems and every penny that goes to that nice pair; Mr Gates and Mr Balmer is a penny well spent IMHO. I only hope they are able to use my small contribution towards thier joint dream of world domination.

Put on Win2K. It's stable as hell, not once came down on me. And I have three systems installed since even before it came out officially. Doesn't have the DOS support of the 9x line, but who needs it anyway.

Win2k is not completely stable because a dll file can be updated by a new application and thus causing an existing application that depended on that dll not to function. The OS dlls are protected by a special cache however so that they can not be overwritten perminantly, but all other applications are open season to dll hell.

hmm, not really a place to shout about cracking, however i belive in free software (legal discalimer: i do not support cracking or anything else, ever!)
and if you want it - it is out there, i can virtually guarantee that!
if you cannot find it - contact me outside of this board and i will give you an address where you may find such educational resources!

Hmm..I always hear about the security patch, but what's it for? My mom bugged about this, too but I just said "Uh...of course I patched it, mom! DUH!".

I don't exactly have the most legal copy of XP either...if you find out where to get it david, contact me.

I have Win2k, and it has crashed completely many times, especially when I'm programming in DX. It is NOT stable in any way. It's better than the DOS based ones, but it's not good.

    Install Linux.
