Talking Tell me if you can do this.

Hey! I've only just began to learn C++ (or any programming for that matter), and I realize it will be a few years before I can begin making mods from games and stuff. But I was wondering If this scenario would be posible?

Would it be possible for me to take 2 different (but I think they would fit together good with a few creative adjustments) games and combined them together into 1 mod? I realize that while playing you would have to be in 1 game engine at a time. That they can not simply work together, but what if I made a host program that dirrected which game engine the players where in and allowed them to change from one engine into the other while keeping their scores and stats and things on the host(mother) program?

I was thinking like make a full multi-player online mod out of Tribes2 and Tachyon The Fringe. Were the players could have ground battles in the Tribes2 engine and then puchase ships to ingage in space battles and space travel in the tachyon engine. Mabe even a third type of battling could be included on the host(mother) program that could be more of a stratagy & team resourse/player command/management part.

So what do you think? Could it be done? Or am I just a dreamer thats out of luck? BOOGIEMAN.....ICQ: 104000501 peace.......

The only way you could do this is with some heavy duty object-orinetation. You would have one central object, with online threads into each field. you would of course have to make all data fields public. Java would be a better language to do this with, as it has better phone-line capabilities. Your first scenario would be impossible unless you had raw source code. other wise the compiled version would always run the original way, but in consecutive order.

Well, if you did that, you might as well just create a bigger game. They would require that you use only one kind of server software, so it would probably be based on one game engine, and you would probably find it much easier just to edit the game, rather than make it compatible with a whole different game. I think that it would be possible to do that though, by just programming a server. Interesting idea.

What will people do if they find that it's true?
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak, there is no disguising the truth!
