I dunno... Disable it? I'm not familiar with WebSense myself but i've seen a few of those useless "Policing" apps. They stink. Usually you can just shut down their proccess using Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the "Close Program" dialogue. That seems like pretty crappy security to me. "Ooh! No! You mean i have to... to... close this before i can surf freely!?"

School computers usually have user-access restrictions too. They're pretty weak to get around also.

There are always ways around it - the question is do you wnat get into trouble with system administration and their super-powers of computer-account-termination for trying to hack their filters??

Try closing the filter using CTRL-ALT-DEl
if that filas and you are running NT try killing the process
if you are running DEV studio - use theprocess view tool to kill the process.

Try and play with the internet settings, most sys-ads (espcecially in schools) dont credit students with much computing knowledge - search the local machine for all *.cpl files and access control panel features (this is how i disabled the security at my old school)

failing that - watch carefully as a teacher or administrator logs in - log in with higher access privelages - you may be able to turn it off.

**Some of the above may be considered illegal or some breach of some bizarre law - or generally just ........ of admin services - so i accept no responsibility for aything you may do **

    none of that works

ctrl+alt+del doesnt work, cant go to internet options, cant run any dos commands, cant hold f8 while boting to boot into safe mode, cant execute any programs, can only access student documents folder, and floppy drive.

You can access a floppy drive?

Can you run Executables from a floppy?
    Which operating system is running?
    Is the o/s local?
Is the filtering software local, server or on the School service provider network?

If it is local and you can run floppy apps then cracking it should be pretty straight forward though i would not recommend it. In the very least it will result in an account termination and possibly lw involvement - you may as well wait until you get home and access the sites that you want

Not that i should be saying any of this but...

Sounds like your schools system is a little more upgraded than the last time i had the opportunity to gain access to one. There are things that can be done though. Tried a boot disk? Does using IExplorer allow you gain access to other files on the system? What about other Internet browsers? Netscape (if available)?

There are tools to help with stuff like this too but i would feel uncomfortable posting them...

At my school, NO chat, games, downloads, millions of sites are blocked (mainly like WAREZ sites), NO right click on anything and NO unnecessary talking. I don't even go in the labs anymore because I feel like I just walked into a concentration camp. Disabling a filter?? This would probably be a violation of the academic integrity bible and get me kicked out of school for malicious activity. I hope you don't have it this bad but becareful.

lol my school has a disable all but what you need policy... so sure you can acess the c: drive using iexplorer but there is nothing you can run... the a: drive is disconnected internally... you do not have acess to the start menu or ctrl-alt-del... basically you cant do anyhting but surf the net from behind their filters and run word... even the word trick that allows you acess to the registry is fixed...

anywyas if you want to bypass the filter head here or here
www.proxy22.com <- superior it encrypts the adress and the adress you type in cannot be logged

My school's got foolproof on the computers: let me tell ya, this thing's a *****.

Now, I know how to get around it (it's actually pretty simple I think, but would result in me getting suspended, I bet. at least a detention). Also, if this program gets whacked out, it's installed on Ring0 of the HD, and you need some sort of military wipe to get rid of it. I used to know the password, but my teacher decided he couldn't take that risk and changed it on my computer (looks like it's time to change computers ). My teacher's actually the admin for the whole thing, and he's L-A-Z-Y. I could do a helluvalot and he wouldn't know. And also, from what I've seen, foolproof takes itself off the conventional task manager, so I'd need to download a more advanced one to cancel it's tasks. I'll do that tomorrow, I think

For the filter, our entire school system goes through the county's proxy at some point to access the internet (or at least the more local server proxy at school), so you can't disable it from your computer. It's called N2H2, I think. I've been meaning to look for cracks and loopholes...sometimes following a link will allow you access to an otherwise inaccesible site. Also, with half the sites just typing in the IP will get you there (this doesn't go for sites hard-coded into the filter just sites with bad meta tags, I've figured out).

Heh, the admin (my tacher) knows I know a lot about computers and programming, so sometimes he'll look the other way if I "accidentally" do something that most students would get a detention for (ie: sending a network message to every computer in the school )

Heh, just some ideas. Remember to get in good with your admin, mine thinks I'm nothing but trouble, but it doesn't really bother him too much, I think he likes me.

N2H2's filter is called Bess - An Internet Guard dog. However, our administratives somehow get rid of it. So that means... no internet filter!!! Yahoo!!! I am free from that internet limiting service dog!!! yayaya!!!

Oh boy, I am cracking up!

My schools computer system sucks. It's more of a pain then anything else.

    1. You can't type a drive in to access it.
    2. Half of the computers every foulder you click opens a new window. And you can't get to the control panel
    3. The internet settings are locked. (and stupid)
    4. Right click is sometimes disabled.
    5. The waiting time for having to log in since word crashed or someone upluged your computer is way to long. 10 minutes.
    6. There is no recycle bin. - they should set the files to be automaticly removed 1 week after they enter the bins. It would not cause a major problem then
    7. Help is disabled.

and it does not do much.

I can access anydrive using a shortcut, and I can get the open with diolog box.
