    Rita: Packing a punch

Judging from what I've heard from my best friend who's currently just moved to Texas for university, I'm getting pretty damn worried about this storm. Has anyone else seen the pictures of this thing??

I'm on campus at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA watching the trees and rain in the wind from the office where I work. Pretty nerve-racking, but I'm sure BR will be fine, barring a tornado or two.

As for the storm, it has weakened to a Cat 3, which is still deadly, but it's predicted to weaken to Tropical Depression status not too long after landfall, hopefully before it reaches my parent's and grandparent's homes in NW LA.

    Where your grandparents?

This one won't be pretty - it's going to hurt oil bad. But I don't think the human life toll will be too bad since it's going to pass east of Houston and Galvaston.

My family all live around Lake Toledo Bend, about 10-20 minutes from the border.

Yeah, I wonder how high the gas prices will jump, depending on how many refineries get hit. It might be time to invest in a bike to ride to class.

Yeah, my mom said that our home town, Many, only had one gas station that had gas left.

Right now their getting the worst part of it. My mom said several oak trees have been uprooted around the house, but luckily none have struck the house.
