Weren't you the one a few posts back who was talking about how stupid it is to make broad generalizations based on a relatively small bit of evidence?

Oh well, I don't suppose everyone can live up to the standards that they hold others to.

Hmm... Actually, I think this sums it up:

The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

The US's 50 year reign as super power is coming to a close (as super powers are economic, rather than military, these decades).
    <

haw haw haw.... RIGHT... you wish... im sure China would be so much better for the world as the "only" superpower...

    >We already have....

USA (et al) in Iraq and Australia in Timor.

Oil (petrol) is only going to get more expensive from here.
    <

    <

I love how no-one is always able to come into contentious topics and dissect the opposing argument with logic, respect, and proper spelling.

    I think I like no-one. Too bad I'm an ignorant-rich-white-homophobe, otherwise I'd hug him.

What is your definition of a "real solution"?

Anybody can come up with elaborate criticisms and conspiracy theories which seem to come from an intellectual standpoint. I hear a lot about mind control and going to war for oil without also hearing about what alternative actions the US could take which would be any better. Doing nothing is no longer acceptable, remember kids Clinton tried that in Afghanistan prior to sept11th (I liked Clinton and don't blame him though). Ironically, the common alternative course of action I hear is that we should have gone to war with North Korea instead of Iraq. Oh boy, I'd have a field day with that one. Do you know how quickly, and easy, it would be to develop a conspiracy theory with that one? Talk about mind control, let me try this:

-"Oh, the real reason we went to war with North Korea had NOTHING to do with North Korea and weapons. Hell, they've only JUST started developing these missiles that *might* be able to carry nuclear warheads. NK doesn't even have anything to do with Islamic terrorism, shouldn't we be at war with a radical Islamic state? The real reason we went into North Korea was because of CHINA! Yes, that's right, we're just trying to secure a border against China, so we can maintain our status as a superpower so Bush can get rich! (queue to find link between Bush's personal business and some businessman in China, which is sure to exist). North Korea didn't even have ANYTHING to do with Sept 11th. We should've gone into Iraq instead, I mean, North Korea might have a fledgling weapons program, but friggin Saddam Hussein is already responsible for genocide and using WMDs, and at least Iraq is in the Middle East! At least Iraq has oil reserves! At least Iraq has a corrupt radical Islamic state running the country."

I'm sick of hearing the left say we went to war for oil when oil prices are going through the roof. I'm sick of the left screaming human rights violations over detainee abuse. I'm sick of the left screaming human rights violations when the UK wants to allow random searches of muslim men boarding trains. I'm sick of the left saying we went to war for oil, then opposing us drilling on our own soil (Alaska) because it hurts the environment. I'm sick of the left not being able to bring to the table any reasonable social programs that can make healthcare affordable, then bashing Bush for giving tax cuts to the corporations when it's the corporations that pay for you, mommy and daddy's health insurance. I've got more, but I've realized I'm ranting and nobody cares (gotta stick to china!)

Basically, all they do is show us how our current policy is wrong, but that's only half the battle.

Iraq was one of the few secular rulerships in the ME. But hey, now they're going to be a theocracy. Woohoo!

    > I'm sick of hearing the left say we went to war for oil when oil prices are going through the roof.

No one with any brain is saying that. I'll ignore your extremists if you ignore mine.

    > I'm sick of the left screaming human rights violations over detainee abuse.

Why, precisely? We captured them so we can do whatever we want to them, including beating, raping, and killing them?

    > I'm sick of the left not being able to bring to the table any reasonable social programs that can make healthcare affordable, then bashing Bush for giving tax cuts to the corporations when it's the corporations that pay for you, mommy and daddy's health insurance.

Yeah, I know that my company said "Hey, you guys are going to pay lower premiums now that we pay less taxes!". They sure as hell didn't go out and buy a private jet. Wait, that's exactly what happened.

    > Basically, all they do is show us how our current policy is wrong

Someone has to do it; you sure as hell aren't acknowledging the faults when they become apparent.

One question: if Iraq is a war like Bush says, then where is Congress' approval? We've been there for three years, and yet according to the War Powers Act (I believe), a president can only declare war for a set time limit (60 days I think), and three years is A LOT more than 60 days. So what's the deal?

Yeah, they want Islam to be a major part of the new constitution.

No one with any brain is saying that. I'll ignore your extremists if you ignore mine.
    Aye.

Why, precisely? We captured them so we can do whatever we want to them, including beating, raping, and killing them?
Well, I think the punishment handed out to the perpetrators was good but then you get groups like the ACLU wanting to release all of the prisoner abuse pictures, even after the scandal was exposed. I think we need a transparent society so things like that don't happen, but wanting to release all of the pictures now will just ........ more people off, and get more people killed. People were killed when Newsweek released allegations (which ultimately were true, but not verified at the time) about Quran abuse, and riots got plenty of innocent people killed...can you imagine what releasing all of the prisoner abuse photos would do? We want to get the job done in Iraq and get the hell out.

Yeah, I know that my company said "Hey, you guys are going to pay lower premiums now that we pay less taxes!". They sure as hell didn't go out and buy a private jet. Wait, that's exactly what happened.
I'm not going to deny that things like that don't happen, but at the same time if I ever become the CEO of my own company I'd better be able to afford a jet. But, the point I was trying to make is that no democrat (Ted Kennedy, Clintons) really seems able to make benefits such as healthcare affordable by social programs, and the only reason I can get health insurance is because private business decides to pay for it ... then I hear about how cold and evil the corporations are. My reoccuring theme here is that the left offers up a lot of criticisms without real solutions (idealistic vs realistic).

Someone has to do it; you sure as hell aren't acknowledging the faults when they become apparent.
I agree with almost all of the legitimate faults to at least some extent (WMD error, prisoner abuse, the possibility that WMDs wasn't the only reason for going into Iraq), and I still voted for Bush because the left didn't offer up any better, real solutions.

if Iraq is a war like Bush says, then where is Congress' approval
Congress (including John Kerry) voted to hand war authority over to George Bush.

Ah thank you. A news report I heard the other day said the opposite, which is why I asked.

Show me a link that says Congress denied Bush from taking us to war.
I never said they did, but I was under the assumption that Congress had to approve it if the President wanted to use troops longer than the allowed time frame. Like I said above, a news story I heard the other day seemed to say that congress never did. Clearly I missinterpreted them, or they were just spilling a bunch of bull.

    When will that be?

And the scandal is far from exposed - the unreleased pictures are supposed to be the really bad ones.

So you agree that all that stuff is bad, but you'll let it continue because you don't feel someone else will do enough to help out? I dunno, how about electing someone who won't continue that crap?

This survey has some conclusions as to why Bush supporters can't see/accept his faults.

I'm all for cracking down on religious extremists.

I just think we should start with the Christian priest.
