    Formula 1 2005

Anybody follow Formula 1 here? The 2005 season started this past weekend in Melbourne. My thoughts:

Ferrari seems to have been the greatest victim of some of the new regulations, and I agree with their decision to veto Minardi's request to run last year's spec. If Renault takes the place as the dominant team, I'm fine with it. They're a good team with a good attitude, and I think they deserve it. I haven't been a fan of McLaren or Williams since the early 90's when Senna left McLaren Ford, and let's face it: Montoya's never gracious, win or lose. Maybe I'd root for Kimi if he could enjoy the win half as much as Schumacher, but calling your best career finish the "most disappointing race of your life" doesn't even compare to Schumacher's signature jump after every win. And I'm betting that by the end of the year, Villeneuve starts coloring his hair again. It's the only way for him to get some media attention.

    Penny for your thoughts?

Too early to write Ferrari off. Remember Rubens came 2nd. If Schumi had a good start, things might have been different. Maybe we'll have a better idea of this years trends after the next race.

I hope the racing will be closer this year. I agree with you about Minardi. Don't see why they should get special treatment to run last years car. Renault do look strong - and Fisichella is a fine driver for sure.

I've been a Schumi fan for years. (not Ferrari though - if schumi drove for a Brit team that would be great). He's the Ronnie O'Sullivan of F1.

It says a lot for schumi that the governing body has to radically change the rules to help the others. Remember schumi left benetton as double world champion with a great team to go to ferrari who, were not that good at the time. His skill is not only driving but building the team and car up as well. Sure Ferrari have loads more money but we live in capitalist world.
For me the point of F1 is to get car round a circuit as fast as possible, I dont care if noone overtakes( ok its a bonus ). I find the technical aspect more appealing, what I want to see is a team develop a purely computer controlled car and give it a run.

I agree. I would love to see F1 with no regulations. I mean it's pretty amazing that the cars go round the circuit as quickly as they do with only 3 litres and no turbos to play with, but I think it would allow much greater competition if the FIA would just let anything go. As for the whole driver safety issue, there are always other jobs...
