    AirSoft Guns

My friends and I are trying to get a few people to buy some AirSoft guns and have some war games every weekend. I was looking at buying this one:

    http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-ZIDA-799.htm

They're spring loaded, so you have to [pull back on a handle to make the gun ready to fire]* after every round - so I definitely want to get a shotfun, as that will be the easiest to use. This particular one carries a relatively high amount of ammunition, shoots faster than most, is cheaper than most handguns (comes with a small handgun too), and doesn't look too bad as far as cheap AirSoft guns go.

I just wanted to get any feedback or additional advice from the fine people at CBoard. Anyone have any experience with this particular model?

    * The actual word for this would be picked up by the swear filter, I'm sure.

Is every Airsoft gun spring loaded? I could have sworn that some were semis or automatics.

Go to the link provided by sean, you should see links to "electric" guns. Those are the ones I think you are talking about.

As far as what you are looking at that isnt bad at all. Personally i have always found paintball to be MUCH more fun.

The BBs in this case are plastic. They wouldn't call it "airsoft" if you went around putting bits of metal in people, would they?

Also a paint ball at point-blank range really stings, I've heard. Particularly when it hits you in a certain place...

I've played for years and never gotten hit "in a certain place". The only person I've ever seen get hit there was wearing a cup, actually.

Paintballs sting, but not usually badly. Like I was telling Sean, my only bad time was when I was trying to move to another bunker and got absolutely lit up from about 15 feet or so. I probably got hit 10 times - one of them even drew blood. My friend got hit in the neck last summer - THAT looked pretty bad. Looked like he had a bad runin with a vacuum cleaner.

Honestly though, when I go out I'm more afraid of poison ivy than getting shot. I almost always get poison ivy when I play

I've played a decent share of paintball and it doesn't hurt at all. I have no doubt the "special place" would make for a bad day, but I've never seen it happen. Paintball is only bad if you play with bad people-get a group of friends where you can trust each other and you'll be fine. One large advantage you have in choosing airsoft instead of paintball is not having to pay for air- that's the worst part of paintball if you ask me. Just don't let the cops see you screw around with an airsoft gun that looks like an m16

Some of those guns, depending on the fps, hurt like hell. A few of my friends had them in the dorms 2 years ago - and it wasn't fun being caught coming out of the bathroom =\

I have a beretta airsoft and an mp5 airsoft. they're both the cheap springloaded kind. You absolutely cannot have a real war with the cheap springloaded airsoft guns, you need the expensive electric/gas powered ones to have a fun war. My friend has a gas powered glock, the thing is insanely fun to use, cost about 150.

Just get a paintball gun, or use .22s

    edit:
    >>I have no doubt the "special place" would make for a bad day, but I've never seen it happen.

A direct hit can pop your testicle. i shot my friend in the nuts (it only 'grazed it') but subsequently i always wore my nutsack protector from ice hockey afterwards.

    edit:
    >>got absolutely lit up from about 15 feet or so

some kid and i started fighting once, he began choking me, like trying to kill me lol, and i threw him down, picked up a gun, and shot him multiple times point blank. bastard. with a paintball gun

i've been playing with airsoft guns for about 8 months and they are fun! We have construicted a mini shooting range in our attic with a few targets. I'm looking at buying a semi-auto. They are a lot easier to use without constant reloads, i would recommend a semi-auto and a couple of speed loaders for war games
