    >really you can go back? How do you do that? I want to go back too... I don't know of anything so far that 5.5 can't do and 6.0 can... <

ahh, it has a nice big star as the "Favorites" icon, that's worth it. but You can uninstall Internet Explorer 6

    >did it work? I mean did it solve the problem and the stupid pop ups doesn't appear again?<

I don't know, my connection is too slow to download those big updates (anything over 2 Mb is insane for me to download)

In my time on the Internet, I have experimented with a variety of browsers. I have tried practically every signicant release of Internet Explorer for Windows 95/98/etc. from version 1.0 up to 5.5. Soon enough, I will be using Internet Explorer 6.0 on my new Windows XP computer. Right now, on this old box, I have IE 5.0 installed; I have not downloaded any newer versions because download times are far too long on a slow dial-up connection (26,400 bits per second is the fastest connection!).

I have tried nearly every version of Netscape Navigator/Communicator from a Win16 release of Navigator 1.1, Personal Edition, that came with a Windows 95 computer way back when to Netscape Communicator version 4.7x or so, skipping the 2.xx releases. The first modern version I tried was Netscape Navigator 3.01, which was the latest when I got Internet Access (IE 3.01 was the latest at the time also).

I have tried Opera versions 2.xx, 3.xx, 4.xx, and 5.xx; and I feel that it is pretty good; but it still isn't free like the others! I have also tried NCSA Mosaic 3.0 for Win32 and builds of Lynx 2.7.x or so for Win32 and a few other, less popular Win32 browsers.

When I dabbled with Dynamic HTML a few years ago, I found IE 4.0x's support for CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to be much better than Netscape 4.0x's.

Basically, I prefer IE to Netscape or the less popular alternatives.

I have always been a Netscape supporter, and always will be (even though I do like IE 6). My reasons for that come from the Win95 days when IE would stall my comp every single time I used it. No matter what happens with IE, I know that Netscape will always be a reliable internet browser that I can count on and use any time. I love it. Always have. Always will.

    But Netscape is SO sloooowww...

I prefer IE so much more, well, sorry if I offended you...

And there are lots of cool little webpage tricks that can't be displayed in Netscape... It sucks... Probably most of the sites now have "IE only" icons and not "Netscape only" icons... So, I like IE better...

We have Netscape on our library comps and I never go there to surf the net... We have IE in the comp classrooms tho... thank god...

    Talking

I use internet explorer 6 at home, and it has only given me one error, but Proxomation gives me a ton of errors since upgradding (I think IE 6 just passes the errors)

Here at school, we use IE 5 and have not had any problems, but it crashed a lot on my computer.

I tried Opera, but it preforms an Illegal operation.

Well, there are lots of web page effects that doesn't work with Netscape. Like the "Snow" effect and stuff... And there are all these "IE only" icons for download in the "material" sites. You know, some sites let you save materials for webpage building? I've never seen a site with "netscape" only... Maybe I am not knowlegeable enough to comment on that, but that's what I think...

And Netscape IS slower than IE...

no, Netscape IS slower than IE, and, for example one of the -only ie- tricks ir the <marquee> tag, and it doesn't have full JavaScript support.

what I dislike about IE is that it sometimes keeps on downloading the page even if you have already saiid "Stop"

Netscape IS NOT slower than IE, and I dont know WHERE you get that information from. Have you ever tried Netscape? Things load up in the same amount of time, if not faster, using Netscape. Speed depends on your connection, not on your browser. Browsers hardly effect speed.

This probably has something to do with your computer, not IE...

    >Have you ever tried Netscape

duh, of course I have, why would I be saying something like this?

the reason netscape is slower is because it has a lower number of maximum connections at the same time than IE, and Netscape immediately downloads all images, while IE does it , but gives the web page connection more priority than the image threads.

that gives you the sensation that Netscape is slower... (on slow connections, of course)

    >This probably has something to do with your computer, not IE...
why? it started when I got XP and IE6... oh, sorry, what I meant is that I dislike that from IE6

I dunno, I just thought that perhaps, your computer is not fast enought to react right after you clicked the stop button...

It happens to me too, sometimes... The trick is you have to click the button before the page starts loading... Like when I open IE and don't want to go to the home webpage, I click stop right after the window pops up and before the page start loading... After it starts loading, it is hard to stop it right away, unless you have a real fast computer, nothing to do with the connection...

No, I'm sure it stops, the problem happens when I try to open a new location in the same window, it tries to download what was missing (images, mostly) from the first site, and since my connection is so slow, I don't get to open the othre location, so sometimes I have to go to about:blank, and than load the other page

Oh, really? I still think it's your computer tho, cause the stop button only send command for the comp and not the internet connection... It was so busy dl ing the stuff from the first page that it leaves the "load other page" command till later...

    well, I might consider that.

But, I found that thing about Explorer 6, it's in spanish, but I'll translate it for you:

    IEXPLORE.EXE

IEXPLORE.EXE has detected a problem and must close

If you're in the middle of a process, you might lose the information you're working with.
    Report this problem to Microsoft
An error report has been created, it can be sent to improve IEXPLORE.EXE. The report will be treated as confidential and anonymous

To see the data this error report has, click here

    Debug
    Send Error report
    Don't send
