    Harry who?

I was invited by a friend of mine to go to the premier of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in our local 14-screen. What I encountered when I got to the cinema was deeply disturbing.
It had been completely inundated with a flood of little wizard wannabes! All little children dressed in exactly the same fashion. Magick wands, circular glasses, cloaks and all seemed to have attacked their forehead with a pink felt-tip pen for some obscure reason...
Some had even brought along some sort of ancient common household appliance...

I had to wade through this throng of 'Mum, when can we go in?' or 'He broke my wand!' making an attempt not to tread on the mystical minors.

. I nearly collapsed in giggles at the sight of a little boy of about 4 years dressed as Harry...nothing wrong with that. All the kids were... but he was dragging behind him a stuffed toy owl on a doglead. AWWW!! CUTE!!
The owl was looking a little less regal than the real thing... a trifle soggy and dirty and getting stepped on by all the other mini wizards.

What is the thing with Harry Potter? It's sheer madness!!

I know, scarry eh? Can't a guy go see the Star Wars Episode II trailer without being in the midst of a thousand people dressing up like some stupid movie characters... *mutters to himself, "I can't wait to dress up as OB1"*

Harry Potter books are extremely popular. I imagine Lord of the Rings movie will have the same effect on people.

Yep. Though please don't say 'from Newport'... that sounds so... permanent. I'm 'currently residing' there under duress.

Newport: Officially voted now the 2nd worst town in Wales, 2nd only to Wrexham.
Now *that* is something to be proud of! ::sigh::

    You do now!

Hmm... I think I might run into a few difficulties if i were attempt to grow a beard. I don't think I need to dress up. I might take my pet owl along though (see 1st post on this thread) .

Oh come on..... have you ever been to Porth, Port Talbot or Penrhys?

I used to deliver washing machines during my time in uni and went all over S. Wales every day...... I will always remember Penrhys as the hardest, nastiest most un-appealing place in the western world. We used to go up there before 8AM cuz all the nutters were still asleep...... I went up there one morning and the mist was so thick, you couldnt see much at all (Well it was more or less on the top of a small mountain). All of a sudden, the driver screetched to a halt... there was a huge boulder in the middle of the road... how the hell it got there was a mystery to me.... another time we delivered to the local chipshop...... the owner was built like a brick sh#thouse and had one eye..... he stood guard over the van while we delivered his goods. He was actually a nice guy, but I think he was fighting a losing battle trying to run a business there.....

    Newport...pah.....

Hey, that's what the TV spouted a couple of hours ago. I think it refers to major towns possibly...

oh my! port talbot - i sometimes used to go and visit friends there - what a dire town - often there was red dust covering everything from the steel works. i visited there a couple of years ago (i had to - see some solicitor about a will) and it was a ghost town - it was the middle of the afternoon and i dont think there was a shop open... newport is definately not as bad as that

Hmm... well, I grant you the dust from Llanwern Steelworks doesn't have as widespread an affect as in Port Talbot.

Newport is *bad*. I don't like walking around at night because of the gangs that lurk on the estates. I live in the rural part which is a blessing. I will savour the day I go back to England though...

There is nothing wrong with it, people are just fanatic enough to actually imitating the characters. Examples: Harry P., Pokemon, Star W II...

Just trying to pointing out there is nothing wrong with people who are "fanatics" about a certain thing. Though they may look funny and kind of annoying, you should not discriminate the little hearts of children, who are trying to have a good time in the movies.

Anyway, my folks called Harry Potter "Helicopter" for some abstract reasons.
