A+ Certification
Im gonna be taking this test soon, so does anyone who has passed the exam before know some specific pointers that I should remember for the test? I know i gotta memorize IRQ's and Bus speeds, etc. but is there any obscure thing that i should know for exam? Thnx
by the way , what is diff between extended and expanded memory i still dont know....

If you studied using one of the many A+ exam texts then you should not be surprised. Any questions you do not know can be fairly easily guessed based on what you do know.
>>what is diff between extended and expanded memory i still dont know....
Expanded memory conforms to the EMS and as a result can be used by a true DOS system. Extended memory can only be used by PCs with a 286 processor or later running Windows or OS/2.

alright thnx for the explanation man
as for educated guessing, some of the problems are things that i ve never seen before (rare) like on this practice test it asked for all these Networking standards (802.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)
oh well, do you need to memorize all the editors taht come with Win 9x/2000 and RAID specs and stuff?

These are wireless networking standards, 802.11, 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. You only need to know the maximum range allowed by each, the maximum throughput and frequency.
Off the top of my head, 802.11b is the most common. It uses the 2.4 GHz frequency, allows for 11MBps throughput and has a maximum range of 300 feet. 802.11a and g are both more advanced despite the versioning scheme. They run at 54 MBps. 802.11a has a shorter range (150 or 200 feet I believe) and uses an unusual 5GHz frequency. I do not recall 802.11 at the moment, but it is considerably slower (somewhere around 2 or 4 MBps) and has a similar range as 802.11a.
All of these numbers are for an ideal situation though. In practice they are smaller, but that does not matter for the exam.

Not for A+, no.

Most of A+ is dedicated to networking. If you are up to speed on networks and the speeds related to each type etc., then you will be ok.
I received my cert about 3 years ago so prob a lot has changed on the test since then.

Aight peeps thanks i just passed with only 10 points over the minimum score sweet. 566 and 522

Congratulations! Which certification are you trying for next?

Thanks Princeton for helping me out. Anyhow, I dunno what im gonna take cuz i m not going into computers as my major, its just a personal hobby. I might the MCSE/MCSA

That's always a good all around choice, though I cannot help but to recommend Network+ and Security+. Both are interesting topics and the skills are in high demand.

KG,
how much did it cost you to take the test(s)?

$290 i am mass broke now =(
