He was an actor, like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It seems absolutly crazy to us non Americans, but hey even the worlds biggest idiot Bush managed it.

I'm not anti american, I like it, but I also like the rest of the world and whoever the Americans vote in effects the rest of the world, as can be seen from the schoolboy who is running the show now.
Open source isn't a matter of life or death......

As for Reagan, despite my views on his policies, it's sad he had to go, but he coudln't even recognize his wife at the end of his life which musyt havev been hard for his family

I'm sad to lose such a great person, but I am glad that his suffering has stopped.

And based off of the logic you presented Bush W isn't at fault for the current economy, but Clinton's since
exactly, as Clinton supported the unfounded belief that the tech industry was going to be the future of the United States, and people also believed it. Thus alot of people lost alot of money, quite a few their livelyhood, and 9/11/2001 didnt help much either(now disaster/current events can have an immediate affect on the economy, this is one thing that Bush is responsible for). Bush will cause ALOT of harm, just wait till the middle half of Kerry's term.

I might be insane, but for some reason I always thought that Congress actually controlled spending.

I was writting a long in depth respone to EvBladeRunnervE, but in the end I realized it wasn't worth the effort and just decided to rant for a minute.

EvBladeRunnervE your contentions are the same arguments that people used against Regan then, and Bush now, and they have repeatedly been proven false. The Democrats said that Regan would bankrupt the country, and start world war III. In the end Regan ended the cold war without a shot being fired and presided over a decade which saw unbelievable economic growth and prosperity. And now the same comments are labled against President Bush. I can only be glad that despite the opinions you hear in the media (Bush/Regan are/were called everything from warmongers to cowboys, to idiots) the majority of americans (atleast those who vote) are smart enough to see through your pathetic arguments

that conveniently nose dived under the watchful eye of Bush Sr., huh? It could be argued that Reagan's policies are what caused Al-Quaida to form and go against Westerners(because, if you havent read about how Al-Quaida came to be, they were started in response to the militarization by Reagan and Bush Sr. of the middle east, specifically the military bases in Saudi Arabia), therefore starting WWIII, but that is anecdotal evidence and really doesn't apply, like most of your rant. I already said that the end of the Soviet Union could not be attributed to him, or any US president in the last twenty years, they were doomed to die since they were already in tremendous debt from the build-up of arms during the 1960s- early 80s.

I can only be glad that despite the opinions you hear in the media (Bush/Regan are/were called everything from warmongers to cowboys, to idiots) the majority of americans (atleast those who vote) are smart enough to see through your pathetic arguments
then tell me why Bush has the lowest approval rating of any president in the 20th century during a re-election year, and that he just keeps slumping as the year progresses.
He is currently at 47%/49% approve/disprove rating according to gallup:

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/stateNation/

and I havent seen any conservative polls that show much of a different picture.

Dont think that I just dislike/hate republicans, because that is not true. All Politicians, especially Presidential candidates/incumbants are sleazebags and a waste of tax payer's/voter's time.

btw, I love how a thread about an individual has turned into personal attacks because some republican doesnt like the factual portrayal of their Hero/Idol.

    EDIT:

I might be insane, but for some reason I always thought that Congress actually controlled spending.
you are correct, but remember that the president has veto power and the ability to present bills/actions in front of Congress(such as going to war, spending alot of money,etc.). That is why I said that it really takes 4-6 years for something to take affect, because by the time it passes through congress, hits the house/senate for a vote, and hits the presidents desk to be signed, a year or two can go by, and most of the time congress can decide when a bill will actually be enacted(like Bush's medi-care reform bill, which was in the works in 2002 and will not be made active till 2006).

    EDIT: forgot someone :
    FYB:
This is cute actually. Nixon was not a very conservative republican. Reagan is the conservative flagship, the benchmark for conservatism. The comparison is ridiculous. If you are trying to compare the fact that there were scandals in both administrations you are being foolish. Every administration has had a scandal of some sort. It's the way politics works. the party out of power tries to discredit the party in power by assigning the title of scandal to the first thing they can find.
Well, I am sorry , but few had scandals as bad as Reagan and Nixon. However, the appropriate thing would be:

    Reagan < Nixon

since all Nixon did was get involved in a monetary scandal, Reagan actually put forth investing in terrorist groups by giving them arms . . . something which if I recall Bush said was considered aiding and supporting terrorists.

I could go all out on the "Reagan is the conservative flagship, the benchmark for conservatism" thing because that is garbage, I am socially conservative, fiscally liberal(I am pretty partial to the Islamic faith and its reasonable social discipline and its charitable nature) and I do believe that you are taking conservative to mean " god bless the USA.... and noone else" type of idealism. If not, please tell me what in your mind makes a great conservative and what your standards are.

EDIT: if any of you guys feel like a debate, pull me up on AIM : EvBladerunnervE or PM me, as this thread is going pretty astray.

Hmm, he suffered from Alzheimer's and he was 93? Then "Reagan" probably already died long ago. Alzheimer's kills your brain cells. His personality and memories would have disappeared long before his heart stopped beating.
Yes, it's a very slow process dying from alzheimer's. Reagan was diagnosed with it in 1994, and after a while the family declined to show him in public, to save him his dignity. So basically, what you said is true.

The president generally proposes a budget. Then the budget passes a committee in the House and then the House floor. Then, it's sent to the Senate. After it makes it out of the Senate, the president can either sign it into law or veto it.

If a president is truly committed to not raising taxes, he can veto any legislation that does so.

"I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead, make my day." -- Reagan in a speech threatening to veto legislation raising taxes March 13, 1985.

Reagan believed strongly that the government should be smaller, less intrusive in our lives. He was also committed, however, to winning the Cold War. To do so, he spent an unfathomable amount of money, which caused the Soviet Union to go under since it couldn't keep up with us. Whether or not that was the right thing to do is debatable, but the fact remains that during Reagan's presidency, the national debt tripled from one trillion to three trillian dollars.

under current rules however, congress can overthrow a presidential veto if 2/3 or more votes in favor of overthrowing it.(I dont think this has happened within the past two decades however.)

I have difficulty comparing Reagan with Nixon. How many persons FBI files did Reagan ever get caught with?

He was a truely great man.

none as far as I know, but it is kind of hard to say that someone that was buddies with terrorists is better than a person who wanted to destroy a few people's careers/lives.

Hello Mr. EvBladeRunner. I checked your date of birth, and I compared that against several other people you've been arguing against. Your DOB is in the year 1987, whereas "FillYourBrain"'s DOB is in the year 1974. I am older than both of you, and I am typically a very nice guy, but I am going to ask you Blade to do yourself, and everyone else a favor, by shutting the hell up. I think that the smartest thing people your age can do is just assume that elders know more.
