The patent is rather specific. It only applies to an application button (hardware, presumably, think the special purpose buttons on multimedia keyboards) on PDAs, and deals with different functions depending on how the button is used.

I can't believe that they're allowed to patent something like that.
Who manages the patenting system? A high school dropout?

I'm no die-hard Microsoft fan, but the 2nd article is just another biased Microsoft-bashing one that doesn't offer any new points.

And to laud Macs as a good solution is simply insane. I've had more problems with the girlfriends Mac in the two years I've been with her, than I have with every other computer I've ever owned... And I have four computers in front of me as I write! ... Okay, maybe not ever , but I've certainly experienced a fair number of issues with it. A lot of peoples issues with Windows mainly stem from their inability to use it properly. A stupid user can make any quality tool break - and break horribly.
When it comes down to it, you use the tool that best serves your purposes. I use Windows XP because its awesome. Its never crashed for the year I've been running it (and I run it non-stop). Whereas I don't use IE because its the crappiest web browser I've ever seen. I use Mozilla. I dont use Outlook because I'd be better off holding up an electronic sign on the side of the informatrion super highway reading "Virus me up, Scotty". Just use whats good and stop whinnyin'. I use Lotus SmartSuite not MS Office. It doesnt matter to me who made my software. I just buy whats best.
*ahem* Sorry about hijacking the thread a little. To return to the topic at hand: This is just another one of those silly patents/lawsuits/laws that get passed, and dont really have much impact on the way the earth turns. I cant imagine MS actually being successful with this.

I've had more problems with girlfriends than Macs.
