What does BAR (lawyer's exam) stand for?

I want to know what the BAR in bar exam stands for, the test you need to take to obtain your lawyer's license. It doesnt' say on dictionary and I searched a bunch of sites on google but it doesn't actually say what it stands for and I don't feel like searching anymore.

I wasn't aware it actually stood for anything. I've never seen it capitalized like that.

According to dictionary.com, "bar" is a word that refers to "lawyers as a group".

shoot, I dont know right now. I will ask my dad tonight(he actually completed 1 year of law school, but it was hogging too much of his time and almost ended in a divorce with my mom, as he was working 70 hours a week in addition to it).

It doesn't stand for anything. It comes from the wooden railing (or bar) that seperates the gallery from the area with the lawyers and judge. In order to get pass[ed] the bar you had to take a test to prove that you would capable of knowing the law.

I liked that one. Not enough books are written in the present tense

the fast action life of a lawyer only lends itself to present tense! heh

I heard there was a movie, was that any good? I think I am going to have to read more grisham because I have seen the client, and that was good, so I'm probably going to read the book.

don't you want to go to law school govt?

I'm still thinking about the law school thing (especially since I can't find a goddam job).

The book of the Client was WAY better than the movie. I haven't seen the Rainmaker.

an exgirlfriend's dad had to get heart surgery, and went from being a logger (I'd done work for him in the woods and at his rural home) to going to law school at the university I'm attending next year, and he passed the bar with flying colors
