Is bush going to get re elected?

Okay, calm down, I really don't want a flame war started here, and I also hope people don't post opinions here either. If this thread goes bad, which it probably will in a few pages or less, I hope a mod just shuts it down.

I just want your thoughts on whether you think bush has a good chance of being re elected. It seemed for a long time that bush had a good chance of being re elected, a lot of people like him. according to the census data reported on cnn he's still the majority favorite. However his approval rating is basically the lowest its been (the reported approval rating was 90 % after 9 11, but now it is 49%, kerry is 48%, and nader is, well, do the math
    http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ll_president_6

). I also wonder how various issues, especially the gay marriage thing, are going to affect him. Kerry doesn't support gay marriage, as do most americans (again, according to census data) but an even smaller number support banning it by changing the constitution.

notice that you can't really tell my personal opinions about this subject considering the way i wrote...i hope others do the same. i reserve the right for govtcheez to kill you

    > I also hope people don't post opinions here either.
You want people to predict the future without posting opinions?

I think it'll be close, but I'm really hoping no. I'm also thinking that he's going to pull something big out at the last minute (oh hay we've got Osama!).

    > Nader is, well, do the math

Nader's been polling at 6%, which is pretty damn good for a third party.

Poll data's pretty much useless at this point - it's still 8 months until election day and Bush has only started running campaign commercials in the last couple weeks.

I don't like Kerry much, but Bush is one of the biggest wastes of a president I've ever seen.

Yes, I think he will get reelected.

    >>he's going to pull something big out at the last minute

for all you conspiracy theorists, I've recently read in a book (forget title) where the author predicts that if Bush goes down in the poles by a large margin, a 9/11 like catastrophe will happen, so that he could look like a hero.

Personally, I don't believe a word of it...esspecially because the same author writes that it was the current administration who were behind 9/11. It is just interesting how people speculate though.

I would like to know more about what each canidates platform is.

Living in a bubble here at BYU, I have not heard very much concerning each of their platforms.

Obviously I know a little about Bush, considering he has been President the past 4 years.

I know that Bush wants a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
And I have heard all the stuff about how something big is going to happen near election day to help him at the poles.

But I literally know nothing about Kerry.

Can someone enlighten me on their platforms?

    >>constitutional amendment banning gay marriage

DavidP, you just proved that Bush has some really intelligent and witty people working for him. The first thing you mentioned is gay marriage, which is in reality a very insignificatnt issue. By making this issue front page of each paper, and the number one thing you hear on the news, eerything else gets on an after burner, for example the super huge deficit.

as for Kerry you can check: http://johnkerry.com/

his platform is pretty much typical for a democratic candidate...nothing striking.

for best overview click the "on the issues" tab

Being a bit of a die-hard conservative, I think you all know my opinion from previous threads, so here's my prediction:

It's pretty even right now, so I think that if there's an increase in terrorism in the country Bush will definately get reelected, if not, then too many people will be using the economy and the alleged failurs of the war against him for a reelection.

I know that's not a prediction, since it's entirely based on future events, but hey, it's just my two cents.

I give him 3 to 1 odds of being re-elected. Personally, I don't want to see him re-elected, but I think he is in a strong enough position to win the election.

I think Bush can't (and shouldn't ) win this time. The world has seen enough of his arrogant, rude, don't care attitude (and how he can tell lies in plain face). To be honest, I don't believe the majority of the Americans are like him. I can't even imagine what he will do if he is re-elected.

P.S. The same goes to his best buddy as well. You all know who his best (perhaps only) pal is, don't you ???

To see where everyone stands on the issues, go to http://www.issues2000.org/default.htm

I guess I misspoke. I meant I wouldn't be surprised if something like that happened. It's kinda stupid to expect it.

I don't think he'll be re-elected. I just don't see it happening. I don't particularly like Kerry, but I think he'd be an OK pres.

Perhaps, I should be a bit more clear about Bush's best buddy. He is the prime minister (hopefully not for long though ) of another country...

i just wanted to avoid a flame war because these topics can be good if everyone just remains objective and tries to at least somewhat stick to the facts they can get ahold of (i don't want someone posting here talking about how gay marriage will ruin the rain forrests or something).
