It's nothing but just a simple proposal, so please don't get mad  at me but because of the growing popularity of java and many of us also program in java, I was wondering  if it is possible to have a java board in this forum ???

Cprogramming.com
Have a nice day.
How many times is this going to be asked and how many times do we have to remind you that this is a C board. You don't have to have one home for programming help, ya know. Branch out. It's like finding new friends. It's not that hard.
I know this site is about C programming. But many times questions have been asked (and answered :) ) on java in the General Discussion board. That's why I was thinking why not then having a seperate board.Quote:

Well, technically we have a C# board. C# is most like Java than C or C++. But I suppose it meets the requirement of having a C in the name.

This idea has been floated many times. The webmaster decided that this is a C/C++ board and that's where the focus should be. There are many other wonderful sites out there that focus on Java.
I don't particularly care either way, but I wouldn't have any use for it, so I voted 'no'...
JAVA is a very fun toy. There is no doubt about it. JAVA was the first real (or at least semi-real) language that I had learned (unless PERL counts as a real language--which I don't count it). But the fact is this is a site for c programming. Besides I don't see any vb forums. I don't see any pascal forums. I don't see any HTML forums or fortran forums or assembler forums (which by the way if cprogramming.com did deside a different direction an assembler forum would have my vote). The point is I can sit here all day listing off both mainstream and obscure programming languages that this site doesn't have on it. Why aren't they here? because they are not C.
I asked the same question once but now I see the point behind having the focus kept on "C" languages. Flashdaddee has many different forums, and cover a very wide variety, and has a lot of the same users. But I'm afraid I'm going to vote no on this one.

i think the reason why people are asking these questions now is because they got rid of C++ from all school curriculums and replaced it with Java    and now we're getting more and more java people out there. just ........es me off

Cobol has a "C" in the name as well.......
<fx>running away very fast!</fx>
I dont think its a good idea to make a board for java
it's better for the board to concentrate on C/C++ and so i voted no

Not fast enough...
Yeah... this is a democracy. I know I voted as well, but I just realized how stupid this is.Quote:

IIRC wasn't the only reason for the creation of the C# board was because TK and others kept being annoying enough? :)
This thread has been opened and closed more than... yeah.

At this time, Cprogramming.com remains a site focused on C and C++. If, in the future, the site expands to cover other languages, then it would be appropriate to consider adding additional boards to cover those languages. As it stands, the majority of the audience of this site is looking for information relevant to C and C++, not Java, so it is unlikely that such a board would receive enough traffic to justify its existence.
The C# board receives more than an order of magnitude less traffic than the C and C++ boards. This suggests that a Java board would also have a relatively low post total.

I've heard some schools are realising JAVA isn't livnoing up to expectations and some have started teaching C again. Someone posted that on this board. Wonder if its true.
While we are at it we are gonna have another fourm. I vote for Python . Its just so much better than JAVA and it compliments C/C++. No joke. In regards to the poll. PLEASE
>>>>Well, technically we have a C# board. C# is most like Java than C or C++. But I suppose it meets the requirement of having a C in the name.
I also read last month - I think it was CUJ - can't remember, that microsoft is gonna be changing c++ in some radical way, probably becase c# sucks. Either way, they've hired some big guns, including memebers from the ISO C commitee and even Bjarne Stroustrup. *shudders* * 10. i don't know if i want to see that. I know i don't have much facts for it now, but hey, time will prove me right. unless someone else has heard about it too.:o
I doubt it... it was the collegeboard's decision to start usng JAVA in their comp sci AP exams... I took the last exam in C++ :D
My school has offered both languages for quite a while. The only difference is that we now have "C++" and "AP Java" instead of "AP C++" and "Java".
This board doesn't need more forums... (Though (I (think (a (LISP (forum (would (be (interesting.)))))))))
*hides in a corner*
why not change the C# board to the "Other Programming Languages" board then? That way all the non-C stuff (assembly, java, C#, etc..) can have a home.Quote:

OH HELL NO!
i agree totally with jverkoey in the sense that it pises me off that most schools have wiped C++ directy out of the cirriculum for the simple fact that todays youth are completely lazy and retarded and cant even wrap their minds around basic HTML.
Now im lazy, but i made the smart decision to resist Java and go to C++.
i mean check out my sig.
I totally agree with this idea :)Quote:

That sounds like a good solution that can satisfy both sides :)Quote:

Noo don't do that :( I like the C# board how it is. Why not make a seperate board for other languages... or move it to the tech board :(Quote:

Well...the C# board can still remain the way it is but we can have another board as perspective suggested :DQuote:

Ruling out a good thing just because of the name cannot be a good....umm....thing :D
The best place to ask a Java question is on a board which specialises in <drum roll>Java.
You might get your "hello world" java questions answered here, but for any serious questions, the chances of getting your question answered here would be slim. But the same would be true of any tech oriented site, you're sure to find a few people who know a little bit of Java to help with simple questions.
The same seems to be true of the C# forum (I didn't like that idea either). Sure a core minority of people who were here (and lobbied for it) use it from time to time, but the average newbie google'ing for a C# site is going to go somewhere else.
For what it's worth, I think the "Other programming languages" could easily be absorbed by the existing tech board.
Sorry, can't agree with that as the Tech Board is described as "Computer questions not related to programming"Quote:

yes, it too damn long....shorten the damn font - my fingers hurt from scrolling.

to Salem....with that tone!
;)
If a Java forum were created, it would only be following the precedent set when the C# forum was created. C# is no closer to C and C++ than Java is, despite the similar name. If the argument that CProgramming.com is for C is to be taken seriously, the C# forum must be closed.
Right now, I program in Java for my computer science classes, but I still don't find a Java forum here to be necessary.
What are you talking about. i never wrote that:DQuote:

This is a really good IDEA!!!!
:)
I agree... I think the C# board shold just become a 'general programming' board or somethingQuote:

So....now the C# board is under the Guillotine :D :D :DQuote:

i think that we should just destroy java, it makes people too lazy and isn't nearly as powerful as C++, look what happened to the mars rover!
*braces impact for flaming*
-edit-
so, by doing that, cboard would become everythingboard.everythingprogramming.com........d oesn't roll off the tongue too wellQuote:

so then we get rid of Dos programming, windows programming, game programming, network/device comm, linux programming, tech board, and GD?Quote:

and since it's the Cboard, we shouldn't have any references to C++, now should we?
Ok - I'm going to kinda repeat what the webmaster has said....
As long as the site focus on C/C++ we will not have a java board. There are other fine sites out there for Java.
As to the idea for a general programming board (or changing the C# board)- that idea will be discussed by the administration and moderators, and if the idea has warrent we will probably discuss it out here. There are merits to of the idea - and they are welcomed, but we do not plan on any drastic changes at this time.

It's called a text editor.
It's title will be whatever the collective decides that it's going to be.
Besides, the tech board already has programming questions of various sorts, so it's not like its a radical change from how its being used at the moment.
Kinda funny how you and af100 have the exact same IP.Quote:

Do you have any proof of that ? I never heard of that idea and frankly I think >50% is your imagination sprung from too many bad movies or good drugs :rolleyes:Quote:

I don't think MS will change C++, mostly because MS does not hold the power to change C++. Point two is C# is far from sucking. It's like Java, just good. If it had proper const correctness, I'd marry her... so at the moment it's just champagne and strawberries and a hot bathtub.... err... I never said that. Move along, nothing to see here...
i'll pretend i never saw that post............... ^^^
>and since it's the Cboard, we shouldn't have any references to C++, now should we?
I can live with that. C++ is too bloated for my tastes.
That's because we used the same computer from our uni and we are in . . . :D :DQuote:

This is a Cprogramming board... and it is made evident in every part of the site. Java questions need to be directed to a 'java' board. There is no need for an extra forum board here.
true but there are very few (if any) good communities that are not ridiculously large or small. (you know the ones, like when you post and five minutes later your post is on the third page. or the ones that just dont have very many worth while members).Quote:

just my 2 cents.
You can direct Java questions to the Tech Board, now.Quote:
