Ruling out a good thing just because of the name cannot be a good....umm....thing :D
The best place to ask a Java question is on a board which specialises in <drum roll>Java.
You might get your "hello world" java questions answered here, but for any serious questions, the chances of getting your question answered here would be slim. But the same would be true of any tech oriented site, you're sure to find a few people who know a little bit of Java to help with simple questions.
The same seems to be true of the C# forum (I didn't like that idea either). Sure a core minority of people who were here (and lobbied for it) use it from time to time, but the average newbie google'ing for a C# site is going to go somewhere else.
For what it's worth, I think the "Other programming languages" could easily be absorbed by the existing tech board.
Sorry, can't agree with that as the Tech Board is described as "Computer questions not related to programming"Quote:

>>i mean check out my sig.
yes, it too damn long....shorten the damn font - my fingers hurt from scrolling.

to Salem....with that tone!
;)
If a Java forum were created, it would only be following the precedent set when the C# forum was created. C# is no closer to C and C++ than Java is, despite the similar name. If the argument that CProgramming.com is for C is to be taken seriously, the C# forum must be closed.
Right now, I program in Java for my computer science classes, but I still don't find a Java forum here to be necessary.
What are you talking about. i never wrote that:DQuote:

This is a really good IDEA!!!!
:)
I agree... I think the C# board shold just become a 'general programming' board or somethingQuote:

i think that we should just destroy java, it makes people too lazy and isn't nearly as powerful as C++, look what happened to the mars rover!
*braces impact for flaming*
-edit-
so, by doing that, cboard would become everythingboard.everythingprogramming.com........d oesn't roll off the tongue too wellQuote:

so then we get rid of Dos programming, windows programming, game programming, network/device comm, linux programming, tech board, and GD?Quote:

and since it's the Cboard, we shouldn't have any references to C++, now should we?
Ok - I'm going to kinda repeat what the webmaster has said....
As long as the site focus on C/C++ we will not have a java board. There are other fine sites out there for Java.
As to the idea for a general programming board (or changing the C# board)- that idea will be discussed by the administration and moderators, and if the idea has warrent we will probably discuss it out here. There are merits to of the idea - and they are welcomed, but we do not plan on any drastic changes at this time.

It's called a text editor.
It's title will be whatever the collective decides that it's going to be.
Besides, the tech board already has programming questions of various sorts, so it's not like its a radical change from how its being used at the moment.
Kinda funny how you and af100 have the exact same IP.Quote:

Do you have any proof of that ? I never heard of that idea and frankly I think >50% is your imagination sprung from too many bad movies or good drugs :rolleyes:Quote:
I also read last month - I think it was CUJ - can't remember, that microsoft is gonna be changing c++ in some radical way, probably becase c# sucks. Either way, they've hired some big guns, including memebers from the ISO C commitee and even Bjarne Stroustrup. *shudders* * 10. i don't know if i want to see that. I know i don't have much facts for it now, but hey, time will prove me right. unless someone else has heard about it too.
I don't think MS will change C++, mostly because MS does not hold the power to change C++. Point two is C# is far from sucking. It's like Java, just good. If it had proper const correctness, I'd marry her... so at the moment it's just champagne and strawberries and a hot bathtub.... err... I never said that. Move along, nothing to see here...
i'll pretend i never saw that post............... ^^^
