    no hardboiling allowed. We plan to use 10 dozen eggs in this thing, so it's gonna be big. The air bag idea is a thought, but we will probably have to have it fall with them preinflated. A parachute is well within my instructors definition of free fall.

    make sure that you pack them in their original casing. Otherwise the slightest impact can cause chaos.

    all materials are legal?

    put the eggs in an old car....

    they'll all break but i will be cool to see the car fall 100ft.

    Make a perfect egg-shell from those stuff they create the blackboxes in aircraft from. Assuming your school pays the costs Otherwise I guess lots of jelly is an inexpensive start...

    That's lame.

    I think the purpose of this exercise is to think up good impact absorbing techniques.

    Heh. Yeah, that would be entertaining. I say go for it.
    Code:
    if( numeric_limits< byte >::digits != bits_per_byte )
        error( "program requires bits_per_byte-bit bytes" );

    I think the combo helium, parachute idea is the best. The helium ballons could double as impact cushions.

    My idea: use quantum eggs. If all the eggs have the right quantum relationship you only need to measure one as intact, and the rest will be the same. Though that could work both ways... i think...maybe.... i dont really know...

    if you don't have to pay for it have all the eggs and containers coated in LineX. Its a heavy duty truck bed liner but it is practically unbreakable(the military is looking to coat building with it as it makes them VERY difficullty to explode). It will cost ALOT of money(its over a grand for a truck bed) but the eggs wont break.

    idea for landing one egg without breaking it, not really scalable though....

    fill a balloon with hydrogen and put an egg inside it. You will need enough hydrogen so the balloon still has lift. Then put that balloon inside another balloon filled with helium. Again you'll need enough helium so that you have lift.

    The hydrogen balloon will sit at the top inside the helium balloon. If the helium balloon has a weight tied to the bottom, just heavy enough to give you a slow descent, walla, you have an egg delivery mechanism.

    BTW: u might not want to smoke around this one.

    if you dont want to use hydrogen, you could also do this with the inner balloon filled with helium and the outer filled with oxygen. Or any other heavier gas.

    need:
    2 inflatable kiddie pool (bottom should be inflatable too).
    duct tape
    water
    200 eggs.

    inflat the 2 kiddie pools, fill 1 with water, put all the eggs in and secure with duct tape. Tape the other kiddie pool on top of the first one. Drop it.

    All the impact energy should be absorbed by the kiddie pool and the water.
