    graphics card selection

    Hi,
I am buying a laptop and have seen many .. one of the laptop has the ATI IGP345M Integrated Graphics chipset.
Is this good for laptops... How do they perform when compared to an ATI 9000 series with 128 MB Video RAM..

    Bye

the graphics cards on laptops are generally crap, furthermore, the refresh on LCD panels is very low. If you're worried about good 3d graphics or gaming, buy a desktop.

    -Some random Debian Distro
    -Some version of MS-Dos

Is it an HP? A google search seemed to only show HP's as having them. Well, that and like a billion non-english results.

I really have no idea how it performs. My generall fall back (google) didn't give me much info so I'm gonna step out on a ledge and say that the ATI 9000 (not series, just plain 9000) would be better. It's probably roughly a 7500, going off what the "normal" laptop graphics would be.

As for the 9000 series, here's a general idea of perfomance wise (non-pro/XT)
    9800>9700>9500>9600>9000>9100>9200
That could be off in one place or two, but it's probably about right.

Generally I'd agree with you, but I got myself one of these a bit ago and while a desktop would've been much cheaper, gaming laptops do exist.

If by refresh rates you mean response times, then yeah its a factor but you can always use a CRT. I play UT2k3 on my 8890 using its screen though and I very rarely notice ghosting effects, and I'd never use a CRT because TFTs are just so much sharper.

As to the original question, I'd imagine the chipset in question performs pretty badly, comparable to onboard desktop graphics. That's only a guess based on the name though.

my laptop has a 64meg radeon 9000 and its great. It performs better (in my opinion) than my desktop G-Force 2 GTS.

The radeon 9000 will be noticalbly better than the integrated video.
