linux is just not user friendly enough for a normal person. Things like typing in "make" instead of clicking a button to install stuff make people angry. This is what M$ has done! A normal person can't operate more than one GUI, such as KDE AND GNOME at the same time, because on windows, it's all one...SHARING...I smell communism...

EDIT: BTW, troll king, u are the biggest idiot ive every seen...You would like full control over ur operating system, and u choose windoze? First of all, linux has more control, considering you can edit the KERNEL, second of all, this is my last post! Bye all! FOREVER!

    >second, why don't you share you're experience with us? if it was so horrilbe, you surely can enlighten us. i betting that linux could handle anything YOU could throw at it.<

He has taken a class in linux, durring witch He thought linux was the best.

    On browsers

I use IE 6. I tried opera, and it crashes as soon as I open it. I even reinstaled it.

    >First of all, linux has more control, considering you can edit the KERNEL, second of all, this is my last post! Bye all! FOREVER!<

But that requies you to be a programmer, everyone is not a programmer don't foget.

    >HP, Compaq, and IBM jumping on the Linux train
Compaqs suck everone know that. I belive Gateway also got on the train but jumbed off.

    >you people need to get some balz and step up the plate...Windows is fine for the old ladies who email (or spend way too much time on message boards) or the brain damaged (like Troll_King), but if you're interested in software development don't be afraid to try Linux. It's only going to get better...<

Compaq delivers some of the best linux based servers in the world. Compaq has never deliverd Desktop systems with Linux.

    >But that requies you to be a programmer, everyone is not a programmer don't foget. <

Well first off you don't need to be a programmer to customize linux, while it definatly won't give you the same flexability as rewriting code, its pretty customizable, out of the box.

Second this IS a programming board in case you forgot....

    >I take offence to that, my grandma is cool she lisens to backstreet boys.<

Don't say things like that, it makes you look stupid.

i was refering to their proliant and alpha server lines. They're availible with linux as an operating system. I agree, i don't think i would buy a compaq pc.

i thought everyone here was a programmer. This is what i don't understand about the Troll. As a C/C++ programmer why he would dismiss something that let him examine the source code? The only explination is that he's survived some sort of massive head trauma.

Windows is fairly customizable (except micromenies decide you can't change the start up screen windows xp, so no one can send it to me)

Everone here is a programmer, but everyone else is not. He dismiesses because he views windows as a a sperior OS. For a desktop windows has that, linux is much better for other applications.

How? Whats your grandma lissen to?

I could just see the tech calls if everyone used linux

    caller: I have a problem.
    Tech : What is it?
caller: Where should say linux it says xunil.
    Tech: What do you mean?
caller: What I said the wold xunil were it nomraly says linux.
tech: Did you modify the source code and reconpile it?
    caller: Whats source code?
Tech: Um the code for linux. What are the last thing you did before this happend.
caller: useless infomation I then did a search for the world linux since I was board.
tech: hold it. Did you view any of these file?
    caller: Yea,
Tech: Did you happen to change the word linux to xunil?
    caller: Maybe.
Tech: and hit a button that said build?
caller: I din't do it on perpose I tell you.
Tech: Can you get those files back.
    caller: I deleted them.
Tech: Yeah, will have to send someone over.

whoa! this thing gets updated a lot (specially when I'm not here, viey "Why oh Why" thread).

As for linux, I once had it, it really sucked! I couldn't use my modem, my sound card, my floppy drive, my CDROM, my CDRW, and when I changed my Video card, it just stopped working!!!

A fat guy with poofy stupid looking hair in one of my classes is the only guy who uses Linux that I know. He got kicked out of class because he felt he could do a better job at explaining interupt requests than the instructor. He ran out of the room like a little girl and tried to slam the door but it had one of the air pressure anti-slam thingies on it. He looked really stupid. He also dropped out of school. Haha, he just lost about $900. I guess he felt he could have more fun playing with IRQs in Linux.
