If its not worth doing fully, its not worth doing at all.
I know some people who do NOTHING but work, in the library every day, study study study, go home, study, eat, sleep, go to uni, lectures, library.... and on and on.
Yuck, what kind of a life is that? Not one for me, but it all comes down to what your priorities are, if getting the best grades are all that matter and you have to work day and night to get them, then go for it. If you'd be happy with slightly lower grades that would give you more time to do other things then go for that instead.
Just remember different people need to do different amounts of work so don't compare yourself to others in that respect.
Thankfully, in my school, it's extremely easy to not do much work and still skate through with a B average.

I could sit in class and not learn much and not do anything and pull off mostly A grades, with an occasional B.
But, eventually you realize that you're there to learn. I work my butt off - not for the grade, for myself.
I pretty much site, don't try hard, and get A's. This one girl I knows cries if she gets an A- or lower, thats someone I don't want to end up like. One day she acually threw papers and a stapler off a table when she got a B on a test.
Maybe I should explain my point of view more. I think you should always try your best but be happy with the results.
Case in point: Last semister I start collage and took a math and an english class. I really suck at english and ended up getting a C in the class. Even though I knew I wasn't good in english I still put forth my best effect and I'm satisifed with the grade I got.

thats the way to do it. people who stress out about bad grades just end up getting more bad grades because they are so stressed. Do your best, you get out what you put in.
If i really understand a subject well.. i do expect the best grades.. but if i get lower grades in subjects i dont like , then i dont care...
There's a difference between college and highschool. Highschool is worthless, so why even try? The only class that I'm even interested in this semester is Pschology/Sociology.Quote:

i havee to get a 3.0 or better or my parents wont let me drive. thats motivation enough for me to try. (and i also have to not have any comments saying that i missed a lot of homeworks... thats the hard part for me)
My answer is in the middle somewhere, kind of like everyone else. Put in a good deal of effort without burning yourself out, or stressing yourself out, and be happy with what you get. In some courses, you'll do great. In others, you might not do the best. Also, that might not be because of the subject either! Sometimes, it's just the instructor/teacher at the helm. :mad:
my average grade is an 87 with not much effort. Down from an 89 the year before.
umm... to get yourself into your college of choice, or a college at that. some people take that statement to the extreme; not saying you do, especially since you've taken some APs, but some do. and then they don't get into any colleges. well, who's fault was that.Quote:

Im was in the pot-head math class at the end of the day. Half the period was getting them to shut up and then explaining how to add for the rest of it. It was really starting to bug me.
So i just looked at the board for the homework and read the part in my book.
Naturaly since i was the only one that didnt own every assignment(the record is 2/30 done) and could pass a drug test she starting $$$$$ing at me for not paying attention. Real nice huh.

When I was in high school, all I learned was how to do as little work as possible and get A's and B's; which has left me with $$$$ for study habits in college. Go for A's
I didn't totally do good or bad in high school but i plan on leaving that place int he dust and work really hard in college so that i have some skills that may be useful to society someday, i reallyu don't want to turn out like all of the alcoholics at the pub i currently work @
i hear ya. i was such a slacker in high school. i had no study habits what so ever. Big shock when you hit university. Ive adapted now but it was a lot of work.Quote:

For me it was:
High School - Don't pay attention, graduate with a lot of C's and D's, occasional A in classes like programming.
College however will be the opposite, I plan on working a lot harder and strive for A's.
in high school my policy was (well by grade 12 at least) study the night before an exam, and only do homework worth a significant amount of marks.Quote:

it really depends on how you work. I dont actually do 30-40 hours a week because i work pretty fast.
My party habits were drastically reduced and i had to learn to put in a few hours every night plus ~8-10 hours over the weekends. It all depends on how well you want to do as well as how much you are able to do. Some make it, some dont. Its definately not something that can be breezed through like high school. (well, unless your Steven Hawking or something)
Heh well that settles a few of my fears...I pay attention in class when I know I need to in order to understand the homework and I don't think I've skipped one assignment yet :D 90% of school for me is easy...just time consuming. I guess it comes down to how much time you are willing to spend on it to get good grades
Get A's, if you have to ask yourself this question then you seriously need to rethink why you are in college again. I've had this same question cross my mind btw, and yea I'v rethought it, get A's. Just don't obsess about it, because there can come a time where you will try and fail and you need to be ready to accept that if it happens. Goodluck.
Ah, but I also work like 30 hours per week. If I had a lot of free time, I'd definately try for all A's. But with a limited amount of free time, I'm not going to put in the extra effort to try for A's, maybe... But I also plan on getting a new job where I can do some of my homework done while working.Quote:

But my question wasn't necessarily just for myself, I wanted to see the boards general opinion.
