    a book page

Perhaps we should create a page listing various C/C++/WinAPI/DirectX/OpenGL/Unix/Game programming/Socket/etc books. We could perhaps have a short description of each book, from people that have read it and would like to give it a review, and a rating system on a scale of 10 points would definitely be great. That way, we could rate books that we read/submit new books to the list, and people looking for good books could take a look at the list and the rankings.

A sticky has been suggested before, but it doesn't give us any nice way to rank various books.

    edit: missed a word

Maybe the webmaster didn't have enough time to implement every suggestion that is brought up. He's a busy guy, and mods have hardly anything to do with the rest of the site beyond the boards.

All thats really needed is for a mod to make a new thread thats a sticky. And watch it every once in a awhile so theres just books.

Hmm... How about this site have a folder called lab or sometin for which a mod a be assigned... Many of the ideas can be tested out by senior members(development of PHP pages etc) and can be evaluated by all the members... if it is good can be included on the main site.. I a not saying this should be done for all suggestions... but for some like the book review, tutorials, e books etc... What do you guys think(what does the webmaster think abt this)... that will also bring down the load on the webmaster and there will be more member participation …

If you ask me.. even the contest stuff should have been on the experimental stage now.. more automation is required like submittin the code etc etc..

That could be interesting, Vasanth, but I'm not sure limiting it to senior members would be enough. It only takes a post count of 100 to be a senior member now - a lot of people who aren't at all devoted to the site and helping and who just ask questions have post counts over 100. Of course, we also don't want to limit it too much.

Anyway, a sticky wouldn't be very good for what I'm thinking. I'd like to see a system which would list all the books which have been submitted. Then, there should be an easy way to "rate" a book (like the thread rating system), and the system could display the average rating for each book. It would make it easy to tell which books are good, and which are bad. A short review might also be nice. Of course, I don't know how long it would take to code this, but I bet someone around here would code it if the idea turns out to be a go.

blackrat364, what ypur thinking of would be the best way, but we would need the admin.

Some new things would need to be created. Access to it would probally be restricted. Plus alot of people hear are afraid of change so there would probally be some rejection for a add on to the site.

A sticky could just list good books and add comments. Maybe the thread can be added into the FAQ if the book goes over well.

I think there a couple of threads with good online stuff, id really like to see a book thread. I hope we can drag in the gurus(every one knows who they are).

    Link plz.

You guys know we do have a list of books already, right? It's not quite the same as what you're describing, but it's there.

It's very very limited, and doesn't have many books. It also doesn't really have a way to tell which are "the best"
