'UNIX-Like'? *sigh* Why isn't OS X fully accepted as a UNIX system?

Libranet 2.8, based off RedHat, is receiving good reviews as being better than RedHat itself...

I may give this Libranet a shot. But I should ask something first. What makes a Libranet distro better or worse than a Mandrake distro? I have tried out mandrake pretty extensively with Gnome and KDE. Are there differences between the Gnome and KDE of the two companies? I'm really looking for user friendliness above all else because I find that one area to be lacking on linux.

    HERE

I guess the GNU software on any distro is pretty much the same. GNOME or KDE shouldnt really look any different among distros, if there is any at all.

Used to be, but by the day, not any more. Heck, you could even customiize your DE (desktop environment) to look even more bloated than Windows'

They say that if you play a Windows Install CD backwords, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing; play it forward and it installs Windows.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they won't come and get you.

(translated from english to swedish to english again (couln't find it in english) so I don't know if those are the exact words he used but the meaning IS the same)

    howdy,
2K pro is the best Windoze OS I've run into yet, It just keeps on going
MSDOS 5 was probably the most stable OS I've lived in,used all of those 4.77 mhz to the fullest.
SuSe is thus far the funnest Linux flavor, The only Linux version to load on a SMP system without choking to death.
VAX/VMS had the biggest balls of all of them, of course in 1981 the VAX 780 was the box/room to have.

I use Windows 98, not that it's my favorite, but what's so bad about MS (other than the monopoly thing). I haven't ever tried anything else, other than Windows NT at school which is pretty much the same as 98, as far as I could tell. I mean does it hog up system reasources or something, is it not flexible enough ? Just wondering.

    linux is just kooler.

its more stable. its designed better for networking, keeping things secure and administration.

you can also play with it more since you can see what makes it tick. its a nerd thingy mostly, plus its free.

Yea it's a nerd thingy, and the amount of time you'll be spending in front of your system to become an 'expert' is excessive, to say the least. But the payoff is just as wonderful, if you're gonna stick w/ it.

Anyhows, I've been trying to get FreeBSD5 up and running w/o a glitch for more than 2 weeks now. Guess this is not stable, it even has the name CURRENT version printed somewhere on the cover...

    Hmmm....anyone got a copy of FreeBSD4.8 here?
