    $0.64

If you went to the store and bought 2 packs of Fig Newtons and
a bag of Baked Doritos, and the checkout guy charged you $3.08
instead of the $2.44 that he should have charged you, would you
correct him ? Ooh, keep in mind there's a line behind you.

That happened to me tonight, and the guy actually seemed to
    get mad at me.

Guy: Did you find everything alright?
    Me: I did.
    Guy: That'll be $3.08
    Me: No, you're wrong. It's $2.44.
    Guy: ::Mean Look::
Guy: I know what I did wrong. I'm sorry about that.
    Me: Yeah.
Line Behind Me: Thinking: Jeez, what a cheap-o. It's only $0.64.

I was embarassed. The thing is though, I only had $3.00 on me.
I experienced a slight panic as soon as he said $3.08. I mean,
what would I do? Be forced to take back a pack of Fig Newtons?
That's just pathetic. I'm going to have nightmares about this
    for weeks...

I guess my fear of not having enough money comes from an incident
that happened when I was in 7th grade. A friend and I went to
a diner to eat lunch, it was on me. I thought $15 would be enough
to pay for our food, but I was wrong. The total bill was $18.21.
We ended up having to borrow money from the waitress (and we
were still about $0.40 short). It's not something I like to talk about.

Sort of like your small....well nevermind...

    jk

Thinking about it again, that actually seemed like a normal story and not a typical story you would tell. Although, it still did have the humour part of it. Bueno!

Would you correct him? Do you have a brain?

Course I would correct him, stuff the people in the line. If anything it will make them check their own bills before paying.

Listen to the sock! (oh, only if you watch www.egg.com adverts on TV!)

    The sock doesnt lie.

Hell yeah I'd correct him. Every time I go to the Burger King south of me they try to stiff me some amount of money. No matter how much it is, I sit there and count it all out, read them the receipt, and generally be a big ass about it. I didn't the first few times, but if it happens every time you go there then I think you have a license to be a jerk.

Anyway, something like your diner story happened to me once, so now I always overestimate how much I should bring by a long shot.

People get ripped off all the time. Most people just throw away the receipt and dont care if they got ripped off.

One store has a policy where they give you back the amount they over charged you.

ie. They over charge you $1, they will give you $2 in return.

ethic, what the heck is wrong with you? Don't give morons like that a chance to mess up again - you should have killed him right then and there. Shoot him in the face. Get your $0.64. Make sure he doesn't live to rip someone else who has no math skills off.

Personally, I add up my totals in my head and then do the tax (also in my head) before I check out usually, if the total is more than a few dollars. You know, I just like to keep track of how much I'm spending, and I normally have the tax figured to within a cent or two. So, yeah, don't let the idiots screw you out of money. My dad once walked back into the store from the parking lot to recover 12 cents. I believe it took 30 minutes.
    Away.

man, you're living in the us.
    Get a pump gun....

And next time when somebody wants to "STEAL" ya money, shoot him in his face....

But in other parts of the world, I would just ask him, where he learned calculating and say, I will never shop here again....

Well I'm sure if someone tossed him a dollar, he would've taken it, but since he didn't have $3, it doesn't seem like he has a choice. How could you not correct him?

Who cares what those fockers think, you did the right thing, that is exactly what I would have done. Don't be embarassed either, that's silly.

That's a good point. We're having our basement finished, and I'm always thinking, I really shouldn't watch Seinfeld reruns right now, it might look stupid to anyone walking through to the basement. But then, it helps to think, "they don't pay the bills". It's only inevitable that I was going to watch Seinfeld reruns eventually, I can't resist, but this at least helps.

yup, i agree with everyone here; you did absolutely the correct thing by checking the receipt and telling the guy that he was wrong. this shows how accurate and precise you are!

and look at it this way, the worst case scenerio is if infact it costs you 3.08 and you only had 3. then what would you have done?
