You're right, that will change. And very soon too. "Featuring a newly designed 300-plus horsepower Nissan Endurance 5.6-liter DOHC V8"

yeah, I was too lazy to look for a link. I think the new Pathfinder Armada will have the same engine as the Titan. Not sure though..

Sounds like something in my league... I'll take you up on that.
The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

Given that I do have some knowledge of performance engines, it is very very hard for me to swallow the 30,000 RPM crap. Crotch rockets which are some of the fastest piston engines turn 12000 RPM. Even a rotary engine is not going to take 30,000 RPM - else the gauge for the car would go that high. Just go out and purchase Need for Speed 1. It has the fastest RX7 on it and the history of the car and its design. At no point does it claim to turn 30,000 RPM. Given that most cars power bands are in the range of 3000 to 5000 RPM, a top RPM of 30,000 RPM would put the power band close to 15,000 RPM or so. As the USA today said as well as Mazda themselves - the new RX8 rotary engine with an automatic tranny WILL NOT take 9,000 RPM and the stick will - but not for any length of time. NASCAR, which are piston driven I understand - but still, rap out at 9,000 RPM but again cannot do it for the length of the race w/o something giving out.

Point me to a site that claims the RX7 can even approach 30K RPM and then I might believe it. But, sorry, I just can't fathom 30K RPM in any car, and I would not want to be within 1000 ft of the beast when it blew if it were ever possible.

The difference between rotary and piston engines is clear and rotaries only have about 5 moving parts (or at least the new RX8), but rotaries do not put out nearly as much torque as piston driven engines - which is why Mazda dumped them until recently. Even the new RX8 only puts out 247 bhp with 165 lb ft of torque. My 4 cyl 16 valve engine puts out that much torque right now at a mere 165 bhp and that's with a K&N filter to aid the air intake. W/o the filter it only runs 155 hp. The 165 is simply a guess but K&N 'claims' their filter can give up to 15% hp boost but I've not had the car dynoed.

At 30K RPM, if it were possible, the engine would theoretically twist the unibody structure into a mess. So lets gander a guess here. If the RX8 puts out 247 hp at about 8000 RPM what the heck would an RX7 put out at 30K RPM? Probably every piece little piece and every fluid in the engine. Could the tranny take it? Absolutely not.

'Theoretically' my 16 valve engine does not have a redline since there are no lifters, but that does not mean it will take 12000 or even 9000 RPM for any length of time.

Sorry but I'm just not 'buying it' yet.

Wow a video game thats years old, wonderful source of info man!

    Right here

    its somewhere in general discussion

With the exception of the RENISIS (RX8's engine) rotories have three moving parts: Eccentric shaft (spelling), and two rotors. Mazda didnt dump them due to torque, in fact mazda wanted to use them in more vehicles they produced. The reason for the ending of rotary production was Ford, who bought out the company. It wasnt until recently that Mazda engineers convinced Ford that the rotary is what makes them Mazda, and ford gave the go-ahead on the RX8.

    >>Even the new RX8 only puts out 247 bhp with 165 lb ft of torque

Which is actually low in comparison to the '87 FC 13B TII and the '93 FD 13B Twin Turbos

These are drag cars (theres two of them), so wouldnt you think the body would have been strengthend? ALOT? Also, the tranny's at 6 seconds in a 1/4 certainly arent stock....

Thought we were talking about your street stock RX7 not some tricked out drag car.

No, for the fourth time, on the subject of 30k RPM we are NOT talking about MY CAR.....i have said several times that im not referring to my car. Im referring to the two 6 second RX7's, the two fastest RX7's at the current time.

I'm not even sure that jet engines turn 30K RPM. What's the benefit of turning that many RPMs? None. Except to destroy the engine.

It's also hard for me to believe you can install a 45 PSI turbo. That's an awful lot of boost - enough to tear the head right off the block. For instance with no modifications to the engine, my TSI Talon could never take a 45 PSI boost. Well...maybe once it could but it would blow every gasket and seal in the engine. You don't need 45 PSI turbos. Superchargers are much better than turbos so if you need that large of a turbo, just supercharge the stupid thing and save your engine.

I've noticed that my turbo has quite a bit of turbo lag which translates into reduced quarter mile times. It takes a lot of exhaust to get the turbo up to speed which normally happens between 1 and 2 gear. If you attempt to get the boost up while on the highway, you absolutely must downshift to 3rd (between 18 and 82 mph) or 4th. I contacted several people about upping the boost on my turbo or installing a new one but you cannot just slap parts on the engine and expect it all to work.

You sound rather knowledgeable about the subject which is why I'm surprised that you buy the 30K RPM crap. Because that's exactly what it is - crap. I'm not a big fan of rotary engines simply because they lack torque. Granted my Talon does not put out much torque - but my preference is just good old fashion muscle.
