Curl out of straight hair

I would like to have this afro kind of hair, where the curl forms in a shape of a big ball that reminds of a microphone. The problem though, is that I've got straight and soft European hair. Do you think it still would be possible to curl up my hair much enough?

I think there are always good hairdressers/barbers, who can do it......

But there are also bad hairdressers/barbers.......... u have to watchout..... they can ruin your hair and after it you look and feel horrible......
