I didn't say Athlon64 and the P4 were even competition. I was saying the Opteron beats a hyperthreaded P4 while being a GHz under on clock speed. All the opteron is is a 64 bit Athlon with a little bigger L1 and L2 caches. Which is just proving that if improved on (which will become the Athlon64) it'll totally blow intel's next chip away.

PS: The opteron kicks Xeon's ass.

Anyone have any experience with the Centrino?

I'm thinking of getting it with my laptop that I'll be buying for college. The battery life is very enticing.

Isn't that a motherboard architecture for notebooks? One thing I do gotta say, is Intel makes some pretty good chipsets for mobos. Not as good as nVidia though

There is a place where notebooks are good, and a place where desktops are.

laptops are a lot better way to use computers on the go then it is to carry a full desktop PC around and a generator.
