    Smile modem

    I hope that this is a easy question for somebody...

    I just purchased a new desktop and want to turn down the
    volume of the modem. Everytime I connect to my ISP I really don't want to hear the modem sounds.

    Any help would be great....

    Thanks,

    Check the ATLx and ATMx commands

    How you send this to your modem is another matter. Probably right click, choose properties or something.

    Or perhaps via the control panel.

    If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

    Are you on Windows?

    If so try this....

    Control Panel->System->Device Manager

    (Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager
    for windows 2000)

    Find your modem and go to its properies. If your in luck, there might be an option to adjust the modem volume here. It differs from driver to driver though.

    I had the same problem, and I could not change volume from windows. There was a port that said speaker so I pluged something in to it. And it shut up.

    In back of my modem there is a port for the phone line comming in, one to go to a phone, a micropone, and a speaker. I pluged a spearker cable into the speaker port. No sound.

    Weird...guess this could be for some kind of primitive hands free speak facility for your modem.

    As if you would ever use that....

    Well I do this with mine (Win98 SE)

    Start->Settings->Control Panel->Modems->(Select your modem)->Settings->Speaker Volume->(Move slider down)

    I'm not sure of the names 'cause I have windows in spanish!

    Ah, so you have a SmartModem, I've heard of those, but they are too tough to set up, I happen to have one of those, but how do you set them up so they can recognize the +++ command, I've tried saying "Plus plus plus", but it doesn't work
