Didnt some norwegian kid get introuble for developing software that could allow people to watch movies on linux because of the possibility to copy them? I dont get it, I mean, I can get a dvd ripper anywhere and whenever I rent movies I rip them!

Didnt some norwegian kid get introuble for developing software that could allow people to watch movies on linux because of the possibility to copy them? I dont get it, I mean, I can get a dvd ripper anywhere and whenever I rent movies I rip them!

his program broke the code so that it could be played on linux machines. The prosecution claimed it was illegal use of the DVD through the use of his program, but they lost because the judge, as well as defense, agreed that it was not stated that the dvd's could not be used on linux and they were using their property (ie the dvd) for its intended use through creation of a new software. I have the article let me dig it up.
